Actually thats good news! Now I know it ought to work.
Fortunately there is a UK supplier address on the label so I've E-Mailed them to see if they will swop it.
If not I'll just get another from Amazon, swop over and send the new box back with the old one in it for a refund. Be in trouble if the new one doesn't work either tho'.
Tested an android phone earlier and it still won't bluetooth pair so something wrong with the embedded software.

I put a 7" Android stereo in the dash on one of my P38's many years back. The OS is getting old & a bit slow now, so thinking of replacing it with a modern Chinese unit. There are many 2DIN units out there which are shallow enough to not need my "remote screen solution".
No need to GROM or FM connection on either. The android uses transformers for the RCA to Harmon Kardon amps, and the Pioneer just works from speaker out to amps directly. No need for attenuators.

I'm sorry that you are having this problem & I feel guilty as I have been endorsing this CarPlay device. It's unfortunate that you got a dodgy one but the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you the right to repair or refund for six months after purchase. The onus is on the trader to effect a remedy. I'm using an iPhone 12 Pro Max & it works very nicely.

I have the top of the line Harmon Kardon DSP amplifier so the simplest solution for me is to get a GROM bluetooth adapter. The FM transmitter for the CarPlay device is pretty good but like all thee devices is prone to interference.
I also have an occasional but persistent crackle from the speakers in the passenger door. I'm not sure whether it's the wiring, the FM transmitter, a speaker, the HK DSP amplifier or whatever that is the origin of the crackling. It would be annoying to fit the GROM bluetooth device but still have a crackle from the speakers.
My plan is first to swap over the speaker from the passenger door to the driver's door & vice versa. Then if the crackle has moved over to the driver's door I know that I need to get a new speaker.

iPhone displays a code number that it expects the tablet to show. Which never happens. Attempting to pair willy nilly leads to both iPhone and tablet reporting being connected but the tablet stays stuck on the connection management screen instead of displaying the use CarPlay message to indicate proper pairing.
Did I say how much I hate Bluetooth!
So Amazon is getting the new one back on Monday.
Everything else works just fine on the original one so, as the reverse camera was what I really wanted, I might just wire that in and craft a flip down mount so the tablet doesn't look silly in normal driving. Objectively straight to E-Waste and write off £60 (ish) is a more sensible use of time though.
Unusually for something from China Inc the label had an apparently genuine address, e-mail and phone number for a UK representative. Replab Consulting. Likely fictitious however. Mrs Google finds 4 different addresses for same firm none of which look plausible on Maps. All same phone number but that is dead. E-Mail address actually works and produced a reply saying that they are "only the UK representative, any complaints have to be taken up with the maker in China". Good luck with that methinks. Language in E-Mail text suggests AI generated for a not native English speaker so the whole thing is probably virtual. A for effort but why did they bother.

The crackle from door amps either side is most likely corrosion in the front footwell connectors.

Do it the other way round. Set the Tablet into pairing mode, and then find that in the iPhone Bluetooth settings. someone on another Android Stereo forum had the same issue !!

Thought I'd tried that but gave it another go. Or four.
Still the same result. Connects quickly. Both phone and tablet agree they are connected but system doesn't go on to pair. Doesn't help that there appears to be no way to explicitly force tablet into pairing mode but apparently re-set then power on off followed by selecting car play does so.
I'm never complaining about P38 electronics again!

It does also depend on the firmware & Carplay app version in the android unit. Most of the Chinese tablets & Head Units use an app called Zlink, but there are different versions with variable success rate.
You might need to contact the supplier, and see if there's a firmware update for it ? Otherwise, if it doesn't work as advertised, then you're entitled to a refund.
What processor & firmware version is it ? Look in the Android system menus for things like Firmware Name, MCU (drives all the custom hardware in it), Model Number & CPU type. Then search for the same model on XDA Forums. Most likely someone will have the same unit & issues, and maybe the solution !!
