Agreed on the general wonderfulness of heated screens but the bottom (reading) end of my varifocal glasses focuses nicely on the elements which can be irritating. I see about 6" to 9" deep worth of elements when not absolutely focusing well up the road. Really only notice when looking around at junctions et al but ...

Don't like to drive with fixed focus distance glasses as speedo and everything in the car is fuzzy.

My P38 has been my daily for the last 18 months or so having moved closer to work (and it thus being affordable), and I am (/was) really looking forward to having a fully working heated screen. When it gets too cold, the a/c won't come on so you're left waiting for the V8 to warm up.

Have contemplated a few times figuring out a way to fit a fast idle button.

That's a right piss take about your windscreen, I can't believe he actually thought he'd get away with it.

When I had a new screen fitted to my Supercharged Range Rover last summer, I boiled a pan of water and took it to the car and held it above the dashboard so that it steamed the screen up. I then started the car and left the HEVAC all switched off and turned on the electric heated screen to ensure it cleared.

Seemed to do a good job of testing the screen at the time :)

All done - again!

The guy that came out today was great - certainly above and beyond expectations. He's taken a load of pictures of how it had been fitted to report back, and then set about doing the job properly. I hadn't noticed but the top trim also hadn't been replaced last time, nor had it actually been refitted correctly.

Removed the old/new screen, cleaned the grounding point in the middle, and even knocked out the rusted in screws in the scuttle panel and replaced the plastic inserts with new. All plugged in as it should be - shall see later if it works.

Should be all systems go now, when I had mine done they replaced the top trim, I was quite surprised to be honest, but it must be part and parcel with the screen these days.

Parked up just now and noticed the top trim is just...gone.

Why is this being such a saga? It's just a bloody windscreen replacement.

I've emailed them again so will see what they'll do about it.

I'm beginning to think I'll live with a tiny stone chip directly in my line of vision and about 3 strips half an inch wide that clear. The stonechip is just mildly annoying at times, it's been filled by one of those stonechip repair guys but looks like a dead bug on the screen that just won't shift no matter how much I use the washers. But if this kind of saga is what getting it replaced is going to entail, I don't think I'll bother.
