I did a lot of research on body and paint shops and came up with a place that has 5 stars for quality etc... hard to find a bad review on them.
Car was dropped off today and they start work on it in 5 days.
I know nothing about auto painting so hopefully someone here can help ...
The owner of shop said they would be putting on 3 coats of paint a 3 coats of clear oat and that this was what they did to all vehicles.
My question to group is, is three coats of paint enough and is 3 coats of clear coat too much or about right?
I want this done right and not have it come out like a Chav just aerosol can painted his Ford Escort Mark II....

Sounds good, 3 coats is most probably more than the base coat needs, I suspect they know how rare this car is and want to make sure it’s a pukka job, clear coat, 3 is enough, you can put 1 to infinity, 3 will give good protection and a nice finish when then flat and polish.

Sounds good - you definitely don't want to skimp on the clear coat, as this is what you actually wear down over time if you polish the car. Certainly if you ever have it machine polished, some material is removed when a proper DA or rotary machine is used, and an abrasive compound.

3 base coats is ample, 2 would be normal for a good finish. You will be disappointed when you first see it as it will have the chav 'wet look' until it is flatted back. Normal way is that the clear coats are made up with less lacquer and more thinners on each coat, so the top coat will be thinned right down to give a really deep shine when polished.
