Purchased.
Still need to check which ECU I have fitted mind.
You can plug in the modulator with a little bit of care and see if tc light comes on with ignition. Mine did when I bought mine. Assuming of course that the bulb is in there mine was.
This ETC malarkey is a bit of a mystery.
Mine's an '95 4.6 HSE, but when I plug Nanocom in, it tells me I've got 4 wheel ETC.
Haven't got a photo of the modulator plate and am now upstairs after work with a sundowner, so not going to look right now.
I know my '96 UK version 4.0L had rear wheel ETC, but my understanding is a '95 4.6 (European market) shouldn't have 4 wheel ATC. Correct?
Whilst I've had this off road here, it's never felt the need to use ETC, just ploughed through regardless. My old one only kicked in very rarely as well.
My 97 kicks in often in mud or snow. Only rear wheel ETC.
I have got a 2000 with 4 wheel TC. Due to the traction being so good with the vehicle anyway, it is very difficult to get the TC to come on.
I had to put my foot down in deep mud and get the wheels spinning to get a response and prove it is actually working.
One scenario where it would be useful is if you are crossing a ditch diagonally and have a wheel suspended in the air.
Well I have set aside saturday (tomorrow as I write this) to clean up the new modulator, fit it and bleed the brake system. Thogh I still haven't yet looked to see which ECU I have fitted!
Well that wasn't quite the resounding success I was after...
The replacement unit is fitted (after transferring the stainless washer kit from the old one) and I now have a TC light on the dash. However, I can not bleed it. When trying to bleed the booster circuits the pump is running continuously but I am getting no fluid from either of the two bleed points.
Could this be a compatibility issue with the presumably non-ETC control module (I still haven't looked) or have I got a problem with the new modulator?
Are you bleeding as per rave, the ones on the side of modulator first
Yes, following RAVE. Master cylinder nipple first, then each front caliper. They bled up fine.
Then the booster system (nipple open, pedal down, ignition on until clear fluid emerges) but despite the pump running and the fluid level dropping a bit (and then stabilizing) there is no flow through either nipple. If the reservoir level continued to drop then at least the fluid would be going somewhere but it doesn't so I suspect it is just the accumulator being filled.
I have been a plumb. A slight assembly error. I shall correct it tomorrow and hopefully have it resolved.
C'mon, spill it. What you done????
got distracted by a domestic emergency, rushed it and managed to assemble the pressure spool valve and spring the wrong way around. At least I don't need to remove the entire modulator to correct it.
Corrected my error and it bled fine. Hoorah!
Only now the brakes don't fully release. Boo!
They are not on at full pressure as the vehicle will move but only with lots of throttle. I have not had chance yet to check if it is all calipers or perhaps just the front or rears. All lights extinguish on the dashboard including the new TC light.
I will try adjusting the stop plug (big allen bolt) to see if the power spool valve pre-load needs tweaking.
Tomorrow I will finally grovel under the dashboard and see which control module I have fitted. If it is the none-ETC variant could it be possible that the ETC is being activated even though the light is extinguished?
All sorted, I'd torn an O-ting on the servo/power/spool valve sleeve. Now all good. Try'd out the traction control on a slippery muddy embankment and it kicked in and out as advertised. Didn't get up the embankment but at least the system operated and the intention was there.
sounds painful
