A while ago, I was bemoaning the gradual loss of screen function on my Nanocom Evo. It seemed to coincide with firmware updates, but that could be coincidental.

Anyway, after a nice little exchange of mails with the very helpful Blackbox girls, just over a week ago I parcelled it up and sent it on holiday to Cyprus courtesy of DHL.

Despite not having needed to use it for a while, I feel completely naked now it's not sitting in my centre console!

I know exactly how you feel George. I've been doing some work on the Ascot (until the temperature plummeted and white stuff started falling out of the sky) so I'd been using mine on that. Had to do an 80 mile round trip on Monday and half way there I realised I didn't have it in the car, it was still in the Ascot. I don't remember the last time, if ever, I've had need to use it while out and about but I still started to worry about all the things that could stop working and I'd need it.

Just opening the wardrobe door.

It's come the pretty way.

Larnaka - Athens - Milan - Leipzig - Hong Kong - Manila.

At least it should have some air-miles on arrival!

Having arrived in Manila on the 26th February, I found out this morning from DHL that it has finally be released from customs.

Ten days for them to work out they can't hit me for (even more) duty!

It will be with me tomorrow.

Well, I finally got it back.

Customs charged me VAT on the cost of the repairs carried out in Cyprus.

May their ass holes heal up.

Yeah I really don't fancy sending nanocom away from the UK anymore, it'd probably end up costing more than buying a complete second hand unit now, post brexit. Wasn't cheap beforehand either.

BlackBox told me that duty or VAT shouldn't be charged on repairs.

Just nobody told the Philippine Bureau of Customs.

They'll charge you for anything!

Well, problem solved, after an inordinate amount of time, the problem was.... a transistor. 🤣

In the meantime, my A-pillar connector had gotten even greener and more crusty so couldn't communicate with nanocom at all. Replaced the connectors and back up and running, woohoo.

Regardless of whether they are or aren't charged, the cost of shipping x 2 plus the repair fee is still mental.
