Hi all, ain't been on for a while. I have a problem with my ECU not accepting BECM. Basically I need to take both out to get them calibrated.

Can anyone please tell me where the engine ECU is on my 4.6 hse Thor engine.

As you stand in front of the car, looking into the engine compartment it's right hand side in a black plastic box on the bulkhead behind the cruise control...
But
If you just need a re-synch then a suitable code reader (Nano Evo or whatever) plugged into the OBD socket will read the 4 digit code from the Motronic ECM, then just enter those 4 digits into the BECM- job done.

Thanks Orangebean. I think I found it, and looks obvious now that I know where it is, lol. Having just been out to have a look, I can't see how to remove the ECU. I'm taking them both out so that I can take 'em to Brighton Wednesday or Thursday. Thanks for the advice anyway.

Any chance you know how to get at the ECU? I can take two clips off the top, but can't see whether it's hinged or has similar clips on the bottom

Couple of lugs at the bottom. ECM then comes out in the "lid" where its just clipped in. Probably need to take the cruise unit off its mountings on the EAS box first. Only 2 or 3 self tap screws.
ECU connectors need to come off in sequence as although separate connectors they only come off/ go on one way

An expensive trip to Brighton seems excessive if it's just a sync issue! I don't doubt Callrova's expertise one bit - especially when it comes to repairing BECMS... but I know they aren't the cheapest around, and thus can become expensive if it's just for a simple resync!

What's actually happened to it etc? What's it doing/not doing?

Callrova is my kind of guy. Does a proper job and willing to go the extra mile to verify that everything is working properly rather than just fixing the "simple" fault. I was very pleased with the service and results when I went to see him. Superficially simple issue flagging up ageing components in the BECM. Given the age of everything on our cars a proper health check is probably good idea.

Unpretentious cafe down the road was pretty decent and not expensive when I went.

Only 25 miles to Brighton for me so hardly an expensive trip in my case.

Seeing the SAAB 9-5s on dazer2000's car list reminds me there is a set of suspension poly bushes for a 9-5 and maybe a few other odd bits hanging round the workshop. Free to a good home.

@MartyUk I have tried to read the ECU but can't, therefore need to get the BCEM and ECU out to have them configured. It's not that far up the road from where I am, not on my bike anyways, lol.

What have you used to try to read the Motronic ECM? Needs dedicated kit (Evo, Hawkeye and the like). Where are you? If you put your location into your sig there might even be someone in the next street that has the right tool to read/ programme the ECM/ BECM codes.
I take it you're in a non-starting situation at the moment?

Callrova do have a good rep for BECM stuff. Did a refurb/ unlock on the BECM from my VSE while it was with the previous owner. Probably the same thing you're having done as they resynched the Motronic ECU at the same time.

I thought RSW were in the USA?

If you can't communicate with the engine WAY then chances are it's a bad connection in one of the diagnostic wires rather than anything more serious.

Still, if it gets it sorted then happy days.

Denver to be precise. I think Dazer had his wires crossed :)
He did mention Brighton in an earlier post so Callrova is a more likely trip- especially on a bike.
