Was rooting around in the kitchen drawer today for a cork for the other job and found my other car key.

Says key 2 on the back and lights up when you press the button.

Won't unlock or lock the car with the buttons but it'll start the engine.

Thought by sticking it in the ignition it would re-sync but no.

Do you know how to get it going again?

Try the alternative sync method:
Key in lock, press lock and turn key to lock, key to centre release lock button, press unlock button and turn key to unlock
Don't blame me if car catches fire or a plague of locusts fly out of glove box though

You have to hold the key in both positions and keep the button on the fob pressed until the LED starts to flash much faster. Just turning and pressing won't do it. If passive immobilisation has been turned off then I don't think it will sync in the ignition as it isn't told to transmit.

just for further clarification.

The car is currently locked and was locked using the keyfob i normally use. To attempt to resync the key i just found, do i first unlock the car using my usual keyfob and then proceed with trying to sync the new key?

Doesn't matter. If the car is locked, put the new key in the hole, turn, press button, return, turn the other way, press button and if the sync has been successful the central locking will operate and unlock all the doors.

When I wanted to use 'the other' fob I just had to unlock it with the blade, from then the fob was fullly functional.
Don't know if it was the way it had to be, it just worked.
I was member of the 'two working and one damaged fob' club.
Dealer told me it were keys # 1, 2 and 4 so there must be a lost # 3 somewhere...

Well that was shortlived. Buttons no work and a keycode lockout.

Had to get my mum to come pick me up, take me home for the old key and bring me back to unlock car. 20 mile round trip.

Needless to say, key number 2 has been returned to the drawer.

Key code lock out, should clear itself, the fact you was most probably away for 1/2 hour is the only reason it started with the other key, if you sync’d it with the locks no reason for it not to work. Did it not say push remote when you tried to start ?

Sorry. I wrote the wrong thing.

I didnt get keycode lockout. It asked to either press button or enter keycode.

Buttons stopped working altogether. Flashed when pressing but no action. Tried resetting it in the door again but it wasnt having it. Decided to go get other key rather than doing EKA.

Apparently they can sometimes do that if you've been playing pocket keys and pressing the button while away from the car. Loses track of the rolling algorithm or something exotic sounding

Nah didnt touch em. Locked it, put keys on side, went back out 90 mins later and dead. Havent had low battery message or anything and buttons flash when pressed.

EKA in the door would have worked. The fob won't sync while in that state. I used to get it all the time until I disabled passive immobilisation if I didn't start the car within 30 seconds of unlocking it.

Mine even politely locks itself again after 30 seconds, if I don't actually attempt to get into and start the car.
On my list to kill off, next time I've got the Nano plugged in.

It will and it still will after you've turned off passive immobilisation. The idea is that if you do accidentally press the fob button when in your pocket and unlock the car, it realises you didn't mean to do it and locks itself again. I don't think you can kill that feature.

No, you can't turn off auto relock. It should relock after 60seconds if a door or the tailgate hasn't been opened.

As Gilbertd says - it's in case you've "pocket unlocked" (must be the earlier version of the more common "pocket dialing") by mistake, then it will relock the vehicle so it's secure.

EKA probably would have worked, but i've read that many instances of stuff going wrong and it taking forever thst i wanted to use that as a last resort. I was confident that the old key eould work so i thought that was my best first option. Any thoughts on what may have gone wrong with the new key?
