Hi hope i am in the right place i am new to this forum
My problem is when i move the gear selecter (auto box) to low range nothing at all happens no lights on dash, and no lights on the were the selecter is ,either no sound nothing.
But the car drives with the gear selecter in the low position still in high range
I have removed the console and the limit switch by the lever seems to be working ok all conections are secure and clean underneath could it electrical or mechanical .
I have recently repaced the transfer box chain and i have had no problem with low range selection till now sorry for about the long post

Sounds more electrical than mechanical if it was working before. The switch under the gear selector simply applies an earth to the Pink/Green wire that goes straight to the transfer box ECU. If it doesn't get that earth, it won't tell the ECU to select low range so you'll get nothing on the dash, no beeps and no signal to the motor on the transfer box.

By the way, that isn't a long post......

When it happened on mine, it was the fuse (No4 IIRC) under the seat wasn't making contact properly. Give it a clean and see.

Hi i am not that good with electrics can i check the switch without more of a strip down as i have a lot of the dash out , as i am checking and replacing bulbs and also checking blend motors as i have no book symbol on the display but i dont think they are working , heat on the screen but nowhere else .
I dont suppose that has something to do with my other problem thanks steve

Never having had need to get inside the centre console to get to the bottom of the gear lever, I can't tell you exactly what you will find but the switch is just a microswitch that is operated when you move the lever over to the low range side. It has two wires, a Purple/Green (not Pink/Green as I said in my previous) and a Black. If these are shorted together it should engage low range as long as fuse 4 is OK although if it was blown I would have expected the dash to have told you.

Hi i havent had any warnings on the dash and i have no blown fuse i suppose i could check the transfer motor but some how deep down i am not sure what to think
Thanks for your help steve

Doubt it'll be the transfer motor if it doesn't do anything at all when you put it in low range...

If it was the motor it would still beep at you and flash the light on the dash, it just wouldn't change over (and would beep forever until low moved the lever back). As it isn't doing that, it doesn't even know that you are trying to select low range so the only thing left is the switch. I suppose it might be the ECU that's died but not that likely. Simple enough to check that the earth is getting to the ECU though.

Under passenger seat.
If you haven't already got it, download and install RAVE (factory workshop manual) from
http://rangerovers.pub/static/rave.zip
One sign of a failed/ failing transfer ECU is that the indicators can stop "ticking".
As it stopped working after you had the transfer box out to change the chain, odds are you've either broken a cable. forgotten to plug in a cable, or damged something during that process though.

You probably won't be able to see anything just by looking at it, unless the plug has come out of course. It's under the passenger seat towards the back of the car. If you find pin 33, on the top row of pins with the Purple/Green wire on it, and connect that to earth, that simulates moving the lever across the gate to low range. With the engine running and the gearlever in neutral, that should cause the beeping and changeover to happen.

Sorry to keep on about this problem but could this be related i fitted another power socket for a forward faceing camera , i wired it direct to the wireing of the socket in centre console would this have altered or upset something thanks again for all your advise

That's near to the shift switch so you might have dislodged something, maybe the earth to the switch?

That was my thought, Gilbert. Seems a coincidence. But not being tecky enough, I didn't like to say anything.

Hi checked the wireing around aux socket nothing amis there that i could tell . I checked under the pass seat and found this . bosch auto box transfer controller ecu igg 100030 that is what as written on it unplugged it and found there were only about 10 or 11 pins being used and i could not see a purple/green wire .
So i see this other ecu behind the trans ecu so unplugged that totally different plug but there as a purple /green wire so i earthed that still nothing .
Now i then put a fuse in the position 11 under the drivers seat and box went into neutral no drive at all /so i removed the fuse and after a slight clunk got drive back .
I hope what i am saying is understandable sorry if it is a bit confusing thanks steve

The IGG100030 is the auto gearbox controller and the other one is the transfer box ECU. If earthing the Purple/Green does nothing, that suggests it has died.
