So yesterday I decided to change all the front ball joints and the front diff ( is that a heavy sob, or am I getting old) started on the lhs, took me 3.5 hours to get old out, new in, rhs, took me 40 minutes to do the same, once you've Sussed them out there not too bad. So nice to not hear the diff whine, and no Clunk when I turn the steering,, paying the price today with arthritis, lol, I won't let it beat me,,,

So took the car out this morning, steering is nice and tight, but bugger me, still got the clunk ! Now I'm at a loss.
Changed flexible coupling to steering box, changed steering box, changed drop link and track control arm, poly bushed all the front and back arms etc, and obviously top and bottom ball joints, it's definitely from underneath the I car, I'm wondering if it's the damper on the steering, guy before me had changed it.
Next thing will be a can of fuel and a box of matches..
Any ideas would be appreciated

If you've checked/ changed/ adjusted everything else then the damper is the next suspect. Guy before you might have changed it, but it might well be a Sh!tpart or other piece of junk. Should be relatively easy to pop off and check bushes and backlash in internals

Ok, looking on island 4x4, don't want to buy a shit part ! Have any of you heard of or used the terrafirma steering damper ? I'm trying to keep funds to a minimum as saving to do the engine,, so was going down the middle as such

Well, I've got a Terrafirma on my Hybrid (which is RR Classic based) and have no complaints. I can certainly vouch for the fact that the corrosion protection is good!
A steering damper is a pretty basic bit of kit- just a symmetrical shock absorber really

Thanks OB, just wanted to check that is at least half decent before throwing more money at it,, gonna confirm today that damper is my problem, couldn't move yesterday after changing the ball joints etc, arthritis kicked me up the back side, joys of getting old, lol

Know what you mean about the ageing process. I can't bend myself into impossible shapes to get into corners when welding without tweaking something anymore, and have to think before I lift heavy stuff. I find removing/ replacing RR wheels is a particularly easy way of straining knees etc if I don't actually think about what I'm doing and throw them around like I used to .
I've got the Terrafirma too since a couple of months and am most satisfied.
The old one was shot, on a tarmac road it wandered always throug the 'tracks' if I may say so from side to side and that is history now.
