My drivers side door handle appears to have given up the ghost. Won't open from inside or outside. The outside handle has come right out and won't go back in all the way. The inside handle appears fine, but doesn't actually open the door.

So..... what's it likely to be and how can I fix it? I've read a lot about the pins and plastic bits inside the door and how to carefully take them apart......to be honest I'd rather just buy a new latch (just ordered one off ebay for £60) and fit it.

Will a new latch sort it? Are there any failure modes that won't be sorted by just taking the whole latch out and replacing it?

There's a little plastic lever that's called a "cam" on the parts site that wears out and lets go of the little plastic peg on the handle part. They're a couple of quid, and replacing them solves that "not springing back properly" problem too.

Has the inner handle gone floppy as if it isn't connected to anything? It could be that the stuck outer handle has jammed the latch. Mine did it once on a very frosty morning but it jammed the other way so it wouldn't latch when you shut the door, it just swung open again. I fixed that by pouring a kettle full of water down inside the door but I doubt that is going to work for you.

If you click on oily bits, mark ( OB ) did a write up on door handles, something that I printed and put in a folder, always handy to have a hard copy 👍

There’s a lock set on eBay right now. Door handle, FOB, spare key, ignition barrel and glove box barrel.
Item number is :283236319523

Problem with that is that the fob won't work as it's been coded to the car it was ordered for and can't be coded to a different car. Far simpler to just get the handle alone and swap the lock barrel over. Much cheaper too https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-ALR8122

If the outer door handle has gone floppy and not returning, then probably the cam kit will sort it without having to mess around with other lockets etc.

Its likepy that as the handle hasn't returned it's not letting the latch mechanism return either, which will cause issues with the internal door handle too.
