I pulled the center console and found more broken plastic bits. The biggest look like a grey plastic tube which was broken in half top to bottom. Looks like it fit around a rod. The only rod I think it would fit is the parking brake handle. Since mine is on so tight I cannot twist or pull it off I cannot check. I cannot post a photo here so I cannot show you what I am talking about.

I never went over the low side but heard of some piece of plastic breaks and makes it impossible to go to different positions. I drove her in normal Drive so I do not have that issue. Anyone know what it may be?

It is about 1" long, ID about 1/2" ID. It has two flanges one top and one bottom- but only on Left and Right side like wings-about 11/2" wide from left to right. Both the front and back side are both flat.

This is probably a common broke bit-- just would like to know what it does and what I need to buy.

This HnH was treated pretty badly judging from all of the dirt down and around the shift area.

Well - that is strange. How could something this big drop down into the shift lever well? I am glad that it does not seem to be a broke RR bit- means I only have to worry about the other broken plastic bits.

I think every plastic cover I have removed has at least 1 or many more broken retaining clips. It appears that Land Rover designed them just a tad too tight--- so to remove them puts them close or over the limit of their tensile strength. May of have had some margin when the plastic was fairly new- but when older---

It’s not just the plastic, by the sounds of it your H&H has been abused, most probably badly maintained by idiots that don’t look how things are fixed, just give it a pull to remove that stubborn part !..

Most of my interior bits have broken tabs and mounts too. There's a a few squeaks and rattles but it's mostly OK.

And now for more broken and odd bits to identify.

Every time I shut the driver's door I heard a rattle-- so off goes the door card. Here is what I found. Does any of the three pieces look like something that is off of any part in the door assembly? If not-- how the heck does a big brick of chromated steel with a hole through it end up on the bottom of the door? The hole is not threaded.

With the door card off- any bits I should spray down with light oil? Nice surface corrosion on my chromated steel parts.

Does the window raise and lower correctly?

I can't remember (it's been over 10 years since I changed a window in one of these) but it might be part of what holds the window glass in?

All windows seem to go up and down nicely. If it holds the glass in somehow- then someone could have replaced the glass and forgot to bolt the block in. The block looks like it meant for something important or they would not have plated it.

I found a shard of glass on the passenger side-- I know there was front-end damage at one point because bolts were left out for the front headlights, the left front fender was repainted, and there was clear overspray from the right front door back.

This puppy has seen some hard times- so maybe the side glass had to be replaced at one time- although only foam water liner was cut across the middle from the back to about halfway to the front of the door. The foam had been pulled back on the top half. Would think this was to access the door latch rather than the window.

I have not seen this block with a center hole in RAVE.

The lump of steel goes between the two parts of the door skin and the bolt that holds the exterior door handle in place goes through it. It's so you can do the bolt up tight without it crushing the inner skin against the outer skin. An easy one to lose as 9 times out of 10, you remove the bolt to remove the door handle and it drops into the bottom of the door. The plastic clip looks familiar but I can't for the life of me remember where I've seen it.

I was going to say the same for the metal chunk - the number of them I've found in the bottom of the doors when I've been replacing door latches etc...

The plastic spacer bit looks like it's from under the front? of the door handle, if it was to be fully removed from the door (after the big chunk of metal has fallen inside the door, and you've disconnected the locking/handle rods from the handle/latch.

The other round black bit... no idea... wait - actually it looks like the plastic retainer from the mid/high speaker in the back of the door card.

Thank you both-- now can I replace it by removing the rear bolt and slip it between the panels. The RAVE does not mention this spacer block so I am assuming you are talking between the rear door frame and the outer skin-yes?

Thtat's right, take the bolt out, slip it between the inner door frame and outer door skin and put the bolt back so it passes through the hole. I've found that sticking it to one of those magnetic things used for fishing dropped nuts and bolts out of the bowels of something makes guiding it into place easier.

Thanks Gil----So no unhooking anything else on the latch mechanism in order to get access to slip the block in. I have plenty of magnets on stalks--they all see heavy use.
