The HP PAS line from the pump to the box has a weep at the crimped joint, its also very rusty. Clearly i should be looking to replace it.

When looking on LRCat:

It suggests ANR3855 for my early car.

However ANR3855 is dealer only and discontinued.

There are two other part numbers listed, for later chassis numbers, QEP104660 and QEP105440.

So i guess my question is, how similar are these later hoses, and will i be able to use one on my early car?

I imagine the box end is the same, the steering box didnt change AFAIK. I also wonder about the interim part... the 105440 part is for '99 onwards cars, which is presumably thor and potentially had potentially different PAS pump placement, but the 104660 part appears to be GEMS age and went from '97 to '98

Was there a GEMS steering pump change around there that means the 104660 hose wont fit my older pump?

britcar states its obsolete and island-4x4 says not found, despite the listing appearing in google, suggesting it used to be there and now isnt...

Its also £150 which stings a bit!

104660 seems to have a short flexi section near the PAS box, whereas the older pipe is solid.

I cant find any change to either the steering box, or the PAS pump that coincides with the same chassis cutoff as that hose. The pump changed slightly earlier but the new pump supercedes the old one, so they should be interchangable.

The QEP104660 is also £50 cheaper if i order from island4x4, which means i can replace the other PAS line as well for less money than just buying the one hose. For some reason the return line is available for £35ish as a dunlop branded OEM part.

Hi Aragorn, what did you end up doing about this hose? I've a customer car with the same issue, and supply of ANR3855 seems to have dried up further now. :(

Could the local Pirtek not make one up?

We occasionally have to go and get hydraulic hoses made up for trucks at work when we can't get a part either quickly or at all.

We take the old one down and they make one up using it as a pattern. They usually get it done same day.

I've just compared the PAS pipes on my SE (VIN VA368263) which should be the same early one as yours with that on my ex-plod (VIN WA381091) which should be the later QEP104660 hose and I can't see any difference. They follow the same run (down the side of the PAS pump, then a flexi section to a solid pipe along under the radiator, then a further flexi section before a solid pipe to the steering box) and look to be identical. Still not cheap though. Depending on the state of the metal sections, maybe it's worth having a chat with your local Pirtek (and RR beat me to it......).

Pirtek are a good bet, thanks. Will try them for a price.

Going by pictures on the tinterweb, the difference between the old pipe (which mine and $customers both have) and the newer one is that the new one has a flexi section near the box, and the old one is solid pipe. I don't know whether the fittings and angles on the metal sections are identical or not?

In that case, the SE has had a later one fitted at some time in the past, so it looks like they do fit. Unless the one on there has already had new flexi sections fitted at sometime in the past.

Still not fixed mine. Hopefully start chasing down various leaks now the better weather is here. I have ATF all over the front crossmember too :/

I replaced the HP Pas line on my ML with one made up by Pirtek, a fraction of the price of a new Merc bit and even cheaper than one from a scrapyard. All new except (I think) they re-used one of the ends and didn't fit a metal section in the middle.

Mind you I have to replace the pas pump now... Not a problem caused by the new line though, the pump was on it's way out when I bought the car couple of years ago.

I ended up having Pirtek chop the end off of my pipe and put on a slightly longer rubber section to go to the pump, worked a treat and wasn't too bad cost wise either.
