Just a question before I start, my elderly neighbour owns a dse auto, he had the gearbox changed by his son, but there’s a problem still apparently, my question is, do they have to be reset with nano ,, I’ve not read faults yet, but anything to check would be helpful, and I get to finally use nano, lol

Shouldn't need it, as long as it was a like for like swap. What's the problem?

Many years ago I had a fault on my DSE auto gearbox. At the time it was then fitted with the original HP22 box.
The fault put the car into limp mode and stuck in 3rd gear, but it was a soft fault, i.e. it cleared everytime the ignition was turned off then on again.
I suspected a speed sensor that was detecting a slipping clutch. I decided in the end to change the box and I fitted a HP24 box that I had. No more problems after that. Not sure if any of that helps.

I would make sure the battery is OK to start with. Low voltage can throw up lots of weird faults.
Is the big connector under the header tank damaged or corroded? Are the pins OK? There are a couple of sensors on the transfer box, a speed sensor and a temperature sensor. Gearbox ECU's are pretty reliable, never usually a problem but I have a spare DSE auto ECU if you want to try swapping it. There are a couple of versions however. Are the ECU's original or were they changed with the gearbox?
Transfer box ECU's do burn out if the actuator solenoid jams. I have a spare.
Will your nano work on a diesel if you have a petrol licence?

It will work on all systems except the engine. I've used mine on a DSE for ABS, HEVAC and EAS and have looked at everything else for stored faults and it's fine, it just won't connect to the engine (but my generic code reader will work on that).

You can add a license to it though, if it was needed. Just a shame the payment methods Blackbox use are stuck somewhere in the last century compared to the rest of the internet and hence add additional costs now.

Brian, I think BBS has sorted out their payment options now. I attempted to buy a Nano a little over two years ago when I first got my P38, but abandoned the idea due to this issue. This past November I tried again and got a Nano Evo. They take PayPal and MasterCard like everyone else.

That would be most welcome, the last order I did with them required a bank transfer to an international account, which got me charged something like £9.50 ontop by the bank. Previous order to that was a transfer to a UK account, which at least didn't cost extra.

That's exactly what stopped me the first time. They wanted a bank draft which was going to cost me close to $50CAD from this end, with no guess as to the fees from Cypress. This time around it was pretty seamless.
