Currently transiting to Oregon from California on the Waveney (My other car)...(OK Boat...)
Had a set of brushes in one of the CAV alternators get lunched. Probably a result of a bit of oxide on the slip ring
since we have been idle for a couple of years. In any case, I am after 4 sets of Lucas 6067-69 brushes. Just used my last spare set.
I found it is crossed to an AC-7 and these folks seem to have them in stock:

I've got a local auto electrician who is a dying breed in as much as he repairs things rather than replacing them who will almost certainly have them on his shelf. I can call in and ask him but it won't be until Friday. Diode went short circuit in the alternator on my 1990 Maserati. Took the alternator in to him and picked it up two hours later with a replacement diode pack, cost £60. Much better than the £700 Maserati wanted for a replacement alternator......

last resort would be to find some that nearly fit and file them down . very soft and easy to do . i usually rub them down on a piece of emery paper.like sharpening a pencil.

I am currently on my last set of home made brushes......An old Autoelect in Stawell, Vic showed me how to do them.
Can certainly make some but for 4 of the UK's pounds a set, I will pass.........
Of course, the bloke I have been in contact with who sells them on ebay for 4 pounds a set and 5 pounds Post is willing
but for some reason ebay thinks he will not ship to US so, will not allow me to order them?!!! Grrrrrr....
Possibly Gilbert's mate has some in stock or I can get them sent to a UK address and have them forwarded by an helpful P-38 enthusiast? Would actually prefer NOS if possible as the alternative is probably Chinese.......

When we supply boat engines to us we fit Japanese alternators so maybe you could fit same --- Toyota are the ones we use as small size and high output . Falling that why not email privately that eBay seller and pay him via PayPal --- only an idea mate

These CAV units are 24v 120 amp peak, and will spin out 85 amps all day long. (4 belts!)
They are built like bricks and along with the regulator boxes are fully screened and water proof.
I have never been able to detect any type of EMF or RFI from them.
I also firmly believe in the "Fix it, don't chuck it" school of machinery...Heck! That's why I have P-38s!
Whats the fun with a Toyota alternator, or Hi lux truck?? It will never break, thus you will never learn how to fix stuff!
Besides, I have 2 spares as well......

Sounds like an nice bit of kit!
These have held up well for 38 years with the odd brush replacement, and as I have spares,
I suspect, as my Aussie friends like to say: they will "see me out"
Also, a few bucks for brushes is probably cheaper than replacements........
Just gotta get someone to ship some here.
