Howdy everyone

Looking to add some extra lights to the Project as I am scared of the dark.

Mine doesn't have any factory front fog lights so I have purchased the factory fog light switches and was hoping to use these, so they look neater in the factory switch pack on the dash

I know on my D2 I had to use a certain switch to make sure it was 'self latching' and along with using a relay.

Do we have the knowledge if the either the front or rear fog light switches are good to use. I found a wiring diagram on the dark side forum and have seen that the lights feed info back to the BECM,

Not sure how this would effect use the switch itself if they are suitable to use

All advice and ideas welcome

The plugs should be there behind the front valance. You will also need to find someone with diagnostics to turn them on in the BECM.

I wasn't sure if they were part of the same loom.

Or if they had a basic loom vs a hi line loom with the extras on

If you've got cruise control you've got a high line BeCM. The plugs for the switches will be in the loom waiting for you to plug them in and the wiring for the front fogs will almost certainly be there too. As Dave says though, it isn't as simple as plugging the switch and lights in, the BeCM needs to be told they are fitted. It registers the switch being pressed and then outputs the power to the correct wires to cause them to light up. If it didn't have them before then it will be set as Fog Lamps, Not Fitted and that needs to be changed.

I've got the dangling plug for the cruise control switch even though I don't have cruise control.

For lights are feck all use unless it's foggy, besides dazzling other drivers.

I'm betting the reflectors in the lights are rather dull.
Apparently they can be cleaned up to almost new which rally helps.

I use mine all the time I'm on the Continent. They don't have streetlights on the motorways and as there's naff all traffic driving at night so it's just driving into the blackness. Dipped beam is good, main beam is superb (or they are with Osram Nightbreakers in there) but the fogs give a wide flat beam of light that illuminates the kerbs on both sides filling in the gaps close in. Never had anyone flash me for dazzling them, well, not unless I've got so used to driving on main beam that seeing someone coming the other way is such a shock I've forgotten to dip them.

I like the fog lights as well. On mine they aim low enough that they would never bother anyone

My leds light up the kerb as well,, I can actually see when it’s dark now, lol

I got lost going along this topic ... I thought you want to wire auxiliary lights to use independently, correct?
And the only thing original to use (reuse) would be the fog lamp switch, correct?

In that case I doubt you will be able to use the original loom, as it is very BeCM-dependent ....
I want to do the same, and use a fog switch but so far I got that:
A - you need to run a separate wiring with its own relay and connections;
B - you might or might not be able to use the fog switch, or perhaps needs to be gutted to become a simple on-off ... as it is, is merely a signal sender to the BeCM.

If you don't have front fogs, then chances are the wiring for them will be there (if it isn't you'd need to run a feed from the relevant outputs on the BeCM). Fit a front fog light switch, tell the BeCM it is fitted with front fogs and connect the new lights to the plugs that will be dangling there connected to nothing. The front fogs will come on with sidelights, dip beam and main beam but go off as soon as you turn the main lights off. No need for a separate relay, the circuits are protected by the MOSFETs in the BeCM that supply the power.

This for Grizzly is perfect.
Me I have fogs so will run a separate wiring and just hope I can use another fog switch (where the manual hi-low transfer would be, for example)

My vogue got fogs --- when I fitted bullbar I made bracket and fitted 2x cibie rally giants &fitted 80/100w bulbs into headlights--- been like that for a year and no problems at night & if oncoming vehicles don't dip ---- they soon do when you hit high beam

Found the plugs for the fog lights under the bumper

Just need to see if I can fish the internal plug from behind the panel.
