Standard head unit (non nav) with HK sound. Is an Aux in of any kind possible? Tape deck dead, CD deck dead and getting fed up of covid on the radio!!!

Thanks

If you've got the earlier Clarion, it's dead easy and works perfectly, detects an audio input and fades it in while fading out whatever source you've got selected. If you've got the later Alpine head unit, it isn't so easy. If your CD is dead then you could always connect to that so selecting CD will give you line in instead.

I have a Connects2 harness that is supposed to do the universal audio deed for the Alpine head unit which I shall never use which really should go someone who will.

Far as I can see its supposed to piggy back everything onto the CD input. I'll need to dig out the instructions to find out exactly what it does. If I'm going to mess with audio I shall put a tablet in or at least a modern radio.

I use line in on the Ascot (Clarion with the line in added) and the ex-plod when I'm out of the country. Ex-plod has a DAB radio in it (with line in as standard) but DAB doesn't work as soon as you leave the UK, so I have a tablet I use to stream audio through the line in. Quality is actually better than DAB as most DAB stations are in mono but the stream from the same station is in stereo.

Are you looking to sell it Clive?

If its of use to you I'm quite happy to sell for a very modest number of drinking vouchers. I'll see if I can find it and unearth the vital instructions to find out what it actually does.

As I recall things I got it about 9 years ago wanting to run an iPod through the audio system but the supplier only sent half the kit. Apparently it needs two leads for the Range Rover. By the time I'd sorted out the issue, got the missing bits and dug proper instructions out of Connects2 enthusiasm had waned down to nowt.

I'll PM you soon!

I adapted the Clarion in mine to use a little bluetooth module instead of the cassette - I tricked the cassette deck into thinking a tape was loaded but fed the audio from the bluetooth adaptor in. It was a little board I bought for a fiver off eBay. Only trick was I needed to also add a 5V regulator to power it!

incartech harness and take your pick of after-market bluetooth enabled head units. It's the one thing in my P38 I can rely on to work

Line in is very simple on the Clarion (see http://www.stockholmviews.com/p38/index.html#clarion, although I solder to the pins on the back of the pcb and not onto the plug as shown there)) and once you have the line in it's easy to add a Bluetooth module to that. I've done the line in mod on the Clarion in the Ascot but didn't want to keep mine original (as original for police spec was no radio at all) so I've got a Kenwood Bluetooth enabled DAB radio in there.

I fitted a 3.5mm input to all of my earlier cars and it worked great.

On the later cars I've got a GROM Audio box fitted behind the dashboard which enables hands free calling and bluetooth streaming. They're about £120 but worth every penny.
