bevel or bezel? You mean the plastic surround that fits round the speedo/rev counter in the dash?
Hello Rover7 and welcome ... do you actually have a Rhino?
Gosh, the pub is filling up with a lot of rare RRP38s ... we will become the cream of the cream with the rarest and most unique (and still running!) last of the true British Range Rovers!
Makes me wonder about by plain HSE lol
I seem to remember there was someone (in Malaysia) that was doing replacements in glass fibre. Found a link to them but the website appears dead. Part number is AWR2092 which supersedes to FAV101210 but all the usual suspects show it as out of stock..
I would not even look at that part new ... some complete and undisturbed second hand must be out there!
Usual problem is the tabs at the bottom break off. It would be reasonably simple to take a fibreglass mould off one but I'll not sure what you'd use to replicate them. Fibreglass would be too thick.
I bought one of the Malaysian jobbies, it was actually supplied out of Sydney. They make a range of trim bits for P38. It is good quality, a LOT tougher than the original, a little darker in colour, but once it has been in for two days you don’t notice it. The only thing I had to do was ease the fuel flap switch hole a little (very little) with a flat file to get the switch to fit correctly.
Not cheap, but better than the one I had, which was cracked in half and had no mounting holes left.
Send a link, good to know there is an alternative.
If the area around the mounting holes are cracked, there are plastic repair kits that can be applied. I have a mate that uses a small machine that heats wire filaments and then they get embedded in the plastic. The result is very strong, better than the usual glue process.
If the plastic is missing altogether, it can be reconstructed, and then using the stuff above soldered again.
I need to do some rear panels and I will document graphically the process :-)
Needless to say, the quality of these plastics to start with is ... appalling. Very flimsy and brittle material.
Thank you. Yes we have a Rhino in fairly good condition. It took about 3 years to find but it was worth the wait.
Unfortunately the bezel was glued to the dashboard and when removed it cracked and crumbled so it is probably not worth trying to fix.
If you could send a link or email contact information for the Malaysian replacement it would be greatly appreciated
They do other bits as well. I should say these are fibreglass and so a lot stronger than the originals.
