After 15 years I'm still learning about my P38. I'd always presumed my bump stops were bolted on and had always dreaded the thought of the day of unscrewing a rusted, seized in bolt. Well that day finally came today when replacing my airbags for the second time during my ownership. I finally bit the built and attempted to remove one only to find they just push on, how simple. In my enthusiasm I ripped the remains off with the thought "they can't be much more than a few £s for a set of 4" How I was wrong, £10 + each, come on LR even for you that seems steep. Are the aftermarket ones any good, what do you recommend and where from? Are they generic to any other model / manufacturer?

The only other option I can see is Britpart. Though at least they are an easy part to swap if you discover they are upto the usual Britpart standards....

The ones used on the Disco 2 do bolt on and are a completely different design, so those won't help you.

I worked on the same principle when I bought a Britpart AC condenser. It was very cheap, in stock and came with a two year warranty. If I got less than two years out of it, getting a replacement under warranty and changing it wasn't a huge job and if I got more than two years out of it, it was a bargain.

I was recently talking to a trade customer of Britpart and it seems they have been taken over by a larger parent company. They are, allegedly, working hard to counter the reputation they have and dropping the sub standard parts and replacing them with a lot of OE parts. Apparently the Britpart XS range of brake components are OE.

I try not to use britpart, but some things you can’t get any other way, from what I’ve noticed over the years is keep away from anything electrical, I think my bump stops might be BP, I changed them about 4 yrs ago, cash was a bit tight and went for cheap option on island, no problems with them, but let’s be honest, none of us want to be on the bumps no matter the make 🤣

Now that would be good, as we now have a large Britpart outlet in Manila. Mind, this is probably where they're sending all the sub-standard stuff first!

My old bump stops were replaced with the Britpart bump stops about two years ago. They look identical to the old ones except are orange, the old ones being either a pale yellow or grey and crumbly.

The new ones wouldn’t go on dry. Lubed the metal nub up with Vaseline and then twisted / pushed the bump stop over it.

During my air bag conversion the chassis sat on the bump stops a few times. The bump stops held the chassis off the axles and then returned to their original shape. I’ve also used silicone spray.

Thank you! I've been in exactly the same position. Mine are there, though a bit crumbly, and I haven't touched them just in case it turns into a 'mare' of a job. Now I know!

Like Beowulf, I had to go Britpart for mine, this was over two years ago and they have held pretty well.
My queen spent a fair time on them, sometimes several weeks at a time (for example, while Marty has worked on by BeCM), and never an issue. Among the lesser quality parts, this seems to be a fortunate one.
BTW: when I've replaced them, one of the OEM ones was disintegrated, like gone. I've noticed that corner always had an EAS error, I guess because the sensor gets pushed (or pulled) out of range ...
