Hi All,

I have just bought one of these for my diesel p38. Has anyone else fitted on and what has been there experience?

ERG Removal Plate

Allegedly they improve mpg, power, torque, etc. Not sure this is true, so thought I would ask from someone who has already done it.

I've done egr delete on 300tdi it made a big difference so can't see why not on DSE

Yes, I have fitted one to my 2000 DSE; actually the very same Allisport model in your pic. It was many years ago. Like 10 or 12 years at least.
I did a number of other changes around the same time such as chipping the engine and fitting a larger intercooler, so it is hard to quantify any performance increase due to just the EGR removal. I also messed with the spring on the turbo blowoff and screwed it down to give 1.3 bars. Normally it is set at 1.0 bars g.
The Allisport fitting is just straight through inside. The exhaust connection on the top and the vacuum pipe connection on the bottom are dummies.
With the blanked off exhause pipe and vac tube in place, everything looks the same to a casual observer or MOT guy. Not sure if EGR is on the test though but mine gets through OK.
It has worked well. Allisport welding and fabrication is good.
The EGR is there to recirculate exhaust gases back to reduce emmissions. Problem is turbos, I think all of them, throw out oil to a greater or lesser degree into the compressed air side of the turbo. When the turbo is worn a bit, it can be too much and the oil gets through the intercooler and into the inlet manifold. It gets burnt by the exhaust gases and congeals or carbonises causing a mess.
I noticed the inlet was a lot cleaner as well as being straight through. There is no central valve mechanism like the original EGR valve.
Later on, I also removed the vac pump and fitted a blanking plate off a BMW car. Can't remember which model. It tidied up the front of the engine as well.

Egr is on mot test. If fitted when registered it should be there or will fail if tester notices.
Depends how much tester notices ;)

got EGR delete on my 2000 p38 when I brought it and it passes mot and emissions no problems
I asked the mot tester about it he said as long as it passes emissions test then no problems

Hello mate,

There is a 2p version of the EGR delete. You undo the pipes and slip a 2p piece in there and bolt the pipe back up. Job done. Takes 5 minutes and you will notice the difference the first drive you do. If any MOT tester can spot that then they have x-ray vision

PS: or it could be a 1p coin - my memory is a bit hazy πŸ˜€

Thanks Dave, glad to be back! And hello to the old and the new ones since I was last here.

This week is the first time since catching Corona last February that I've had blood oxgyen sats above 92%, I finally got 99% yesterday. Finally able to breathe properly again and not sound like I've got emphysema when I run up the stairs 😁

Thanks Karlos1,

They are a good lot and I have met some of them haha. This site is a lot more helpful and nowhere near as blunt and sarcastic as a couple of other sites I could mention ;-)

Anyway I've learned a lot too and my P38 DSE is up and running again. The EAS since I rebuilt it moves a lot faster than my Q7's that's for sure!

That's fair enough, only do what you feel good with mate. Mines a 2.5 DSE. It worked well enough on mine for 16,000 miles 😁 and for a 2p mod the performance in pulling up the hill I live on from a cold start was so noticeable that SWMBO asked me what I'd done to the car.
I also cleaned out the inlet manifold of all the black oily residue and the intercooler. Don't do either of those near your wife's white patio paving. It's cost me an extension to cover up the mess :😭

P.S. The only other thing I can think of is if the ECU has the EGR programmed in and does it need removing? My Q7 did ahem. It doesn't now. The EGR delete kit is a posh version of my 2p (which is invisible).

I'm lucky as my neighbour has a p38 2.5td to he has had them all lol so we help each other out with bits
my egr was deleted by previous owner she was a bit neglected but I'm getting there with it slowly
I'm with you on intercooler clean as did mine over Christmas and you do notice the difference
