As header stated mates got a dies hell and he got blowbye from 1/3/4 injectors --- he needs new seals but can't locate any --- part number might help too ---- it's definitely blowbye got nothing to do with return pipes in case you were thinking that πŸ‘

I've forwarded the information and now he can either get rid of it to Roverviews and get a td5 or try BMW as per my suggestion --- that's why I think in the big scheme of things the V8 is best option --- seem to cared for more than diesel too ---- from my encounters anyway

I wouldn't say all of them but a lot of the older diesels seem to be bought by cheapskates because of the perceived lower running costs. Consequently they don't have anything spent on anything else either.

You are talking about the copper washer/seal where the injector screws into the head? I couldn't find any either. No demand I guess. Opels and Vauxhalls that used the engine have long since disappeared, just a few p38's left now.
If there is a local diesel repair shop that repairs pumps and injectors, they may be able to match it if you take an injector in. They are Bosch injectors and it is a BMW M51 engine. You need a special socket with a cutout in it to get the injector out.

I've got the tools for removing the m51 injectors --- but I didn't want to take 1 out as he still needs it for work --- if I get 1 out Friday I'll see what I can do as far as sealing washer goes πŸ‘ I honestly can't see any benefit of DSE over V8 ---- fuel cost/mpg etc Still if I get a result I will pass information on

If you get an injector our for a sample, your local parts store will probably have something that will fit.

Take a magnet with you as there a lot of copper washers on the market which are actually copper colored steel (I wonder where they are made?) which will never seal as they won’t compress and let the components β€œbite” into them. A quick pass with a magnet will show if any of your copper washers defy all known properties of copper, and are magnetic πŸ˜ƒ

Right then --- today spent half my day at work searching the following info ---- the washer is Put on during injector assembly so you need to strip injector to fit sealing washer Unfortunately you need injector setting machine for reassembly as will effect as spray pattern ---- So as it's blowbye I'm going to try liquid PTFE on treads --- I'll update tomorrow if it works as should

The washer does seem to be held captive on the thread which would explain it.

I have actually taken the injectors apart. It is a simple pintle valve design. There was nothing actually wrong with them but I soaked the parts including the nozzles in caustic soda. The idea was to remove carbon deposits. I left them soaking for a few days then reassembled them.
Result ... same as before. No discernable difference.

I assume the blowbye is from the thread on the main body where it screws into the head. Not the top and bottom parts of the injector that screw together? Would a simple copper washer not do? Not tried it but I have got a couple of old static engines and the injectors just have a copper washer. Or else buy an injector on Ebay. Β£20 max.

I've had injectors out and they have a copper washer to seal.
They can be used again if you aneal them to cherry red and quenching in water.

I very much doubt its blowby though. The injectors start to leak where they have a joint.

Got his spare set rebuilt and calibrated this week so fit them on Sunday ---- it's definitely blowbye not fuel did chemical analysis in R&D at work ---- that's how I know it's blowbye πŸ‘
