Hi, I wonder if someone can tell me how to remove the two foam rubber seals that are fitted around the bottom of the bonnet struts. They look like they may be held on with adhesive tape, but I can see a piece of metal inside te seal.

The seals on my car have started to fall apart, and I have been able to get two new ones, and I would like to know how to get the old ones off before the new ones arrive.

These are the pieces that I am talking about:

If I am putting the bonnet up vertically to work on the truck I remove mine, usually just by pulling them out and putting them back when done. They just sort of seem to sit there in place.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I will go out and check mine. One has fallen into two pieces and I glued it back together, but it looks as if it is held in place by a thin metal strip. I am afraid that if I pull either of them up they will just disintergrate, although I suppose it won't do any harm if they are not in place, at least for a week or two.

On the 4.0SE I used to have, one of them would fall out every time I opened the bonnet until I glued it down with silicone.

What purpose does it serve?

Designed to ensure engine air flow is over the motor and down and under the car as opposed to some exiting at the rear of the bonnet.

I got a new seal today, and it has a sticky pad on the largest part of the bottom of it, or so it appears. I haven't actually taken it out of the bag yet !!

Hi, sorry for not replying earlier - I bought two new items from JaguarLandrover Classic Parts.

I'm not sure who else has them.

£96 for a pair! Expensive bits of foam. I think my second truck can go without :)

Marshall8hp, you are right, they are expensive for two pieces of foam rubber. But, unfortunately, I am a bit anal about things like that. If I can see that it is damaged, or worn, or missing, then I have to replace it. I just hate looking at something that isn't correct. As I mentioned earlier, I spent ages looking for a small plastic clip that fits to the sunroof cloth roof edging and keeps the edge of the sunroof held in position with the metal edge of the actual roof. I eventually found one with a dealer in Belgium.

I bought a new door handle for the driver side front door, a year ago, and after fitting it I found that it stood out too much against the original, faded, door handles - so I bought thrre more and replaced all the other ones. As I say - a bit OCD!!
