Hello folks,

I am finally wiring in the reverse camera facility on my touch screen head unit. It needs a signal to tell the unit to switch to the reversing camera view.

I dont's want to run a cable all the way to the reverse lights when the selector and the BECM are so much closer.
Does anyone know if I can piggyback from the selector unit? Or failing that, the BECM?

I am having issues with RAVE not opening on my laptop, hence the question on here in case anyone else has already done similar?

Regards,

Smiler.

No need to run a wire to the BeCM, behind the LH rear light there's a white, 4 way, plug intended to connect to if you have twin towing sockets so is usually just dangling around doing nothing. That has a permanent live, ignition switched live, ground and more importantly, a reversing light feed. Simply find the plug, connect to the Green/Black wire (12v when reverse lights are on) and Black (permanent ground) and job done.

The cable I need to attach is at the head unit in the dashboard. I am trying to avoid running a cable all the way to the rear light units. That's shy I am looking to tap into either the BECM of the selector unit itself.

The Green/Black wire at that connector comes comes directly from pin 5 on C361 at the BeCM which is the forward most connector on the side of the BeCM next to the transmission tunnel so a bit of a bugger to get to. The two feeds to the reversing lights themselves are a Light Green/Black at pin 2 on C325 that goes to the LH reversing light and a Green/Black on pin 9 of the same connector which goes to the RH reversing light. C325 is a Grey plug on the front of the BeCM, nearest the outside of the car.

Although getting at C325 is going to be much easier, depending on how much current is going to be drawn may trip the blown bulb warning so it would probably be better coming off C361. A friend has one of those huge motorhomes with reversing camera (angled downwards) as well as a camera to act as a rear view mirror (angled horizontally). As soon as he selects reverse, he gets a warning light on the dash telling him the reversing light bulb is blown as his equivalent to the BeCM is seeing a greater current draw than it expects so assumes the bulb has gone short circuit.

Brilliant, thanks for that comprehensive answer. Very much appreciated. C361 looks to be favourite. I want to remove the drivers seat anyway to sort out the slop in the height mechanism (it's like sitting in a rocking chair} so I'll do it then.

Cheers, Si.
