I have to get it sent to Edinburgh, and I don't have an exact date yet as to when I am going to Scotland.
Hopefully, they may have them back in stock before the end of the month.

By the way, what was the difference between the ordinary P38 DHSE, or the 4.6 petrol P38, and the Ascot ? Why are the battery leads different ?
Pierre3.
Maybe because they didn't have as much cable in 1996? It's the length of the lead between the fusebox and the battery that makes the difference and it was only half an inch or so shorter, just not quite long enough to reach the post.
Among the other trials and tribulations of my recent excursion to Kent, I left ireland with the biggest battery I could buy which was OK but the wrong handed terminals. I thought while I was 'abroad' I would take advantage and order a Hankook............... wow what a difference! Starting the diesel has never been so easy. Really impressed.
Just to go back to chargers...
I always got around two years out of a battery, or one day after the warranty ran out! Which was a bit of a pain. Everything was working fine, no drain, good charge from the alternator, just the heat killed them.
Invested in a C-tek, and this last battery (same brand as before) has been going for five years now, still happy flinging the engine over. I just tend to throw the charger on every now and again, stick it on its, "Sort the battery out" setting and all's good.
I don't think battery warranty's are worth the paper thay are written on. It is easy for the supplier to say the battery has been misused.
Invariable it has to be posted back to them for testing.

To be fair, Motolite are one of the biggest suppliers here and seem to have a branch on every street corner. People I know who've had a battery go tits-up during the warranty period have had a little guy turn up on a motorbike with a new one within the hour, no quibble.
I know that when one of mine has gone (and they tend to die suddenly) I've never waited more than 30 minutes before a new one is there.
I bet they're wondering why they haven't sold me a new battery recently!

I've bought 5 over the years for mine and other people's cars and they have always turned up the next day. Can't knock them for service.
When the battery is delivered, is it fully charged and what is the fully charged voltage?
Couldn't tell you what the voltage is as I've never bothered checking but they are fully charged. Just bolt it in and use it.
When mine arrived I put a meter on it and voltage seemed a bit down from full charge so I put a cheapy (LiDL) intelligent charger on it. As I recall things it reckoned something like 2/3 rds to 3/4 charge so it got a couple or three hours tickle up whilst I finished off what I was doing when it arrived.
Didn't need the extra charge but as I had the time and the car wasn't scheduled to go out for a week or so it seemed sensible.

I put an MF31-750 on a boat with 4.3 litre inboard motor that is in bits so cannot be run to charge it. I've been working on other stuff on the boat like the hydraulic tilt and trim, various sensors and lights. The battery is still fine even though it hasn't been charged since the day it was delivered.
Hi Guys,
12.6-12.8 is normal for a fully charged battery that has been left to stand, whereas 14.6 would be the maximum voltage as you take a charger off it.
I bought a Yuasa YBX 3642, rated at 925 amps, from Battery Megastore in July, and so far it has been very good. The longest time that I have left it so far is 3 weeks and it really fires up well. I also have a diesel like Blanco.
It was fully charged when it was delivered, or, at least, it was 12.8vdc when I checked it with a multimeter.

The Hankook MF31-1000 is back in stock for £101.38 with free next day delivery. I just ordered one. My current Halfords battery still seems good but is over five years old. I am trying to make my P38 as reliable as possible so am pre-empting problems by replacing items that could potentially fail.
