Hello folks,

My rear bumper has fallen off. As usual, the steel structure inside it (the sacrificial Anode) has rusted away.

Being a common problem on these obviously makes finding a good used one rather challenging. Has anyone tried adapting the steelwork from the front bumper to fit?

Regards,

Si.

The bits at the sides rust but I've not seen one where the main bit across the back has rusted unless it's been used for launching a boat in salt water in the past. Try giving Phil (Holland&Holland on here) a call on 07803 582070. He's got a couple in for breaking at the moment.

Weirdly, on mine, the sides were good but the fabrication with the 'pin(s)' that locate into the rear chassis longitudinals were rotted away. I made new ones for there, reusing the pins. The steel bumper itself is very thick and when I got the car it looked scrap but after removing it (that was a feat!) and a shot blasting it was still solid. The side extensions I would have fabricated something if they were scrap.

Thanks Gilbertd, I'll give him a call.

The main center section of my steelwork has rotted away around the mounting points to the chassis (one chassis insert has also deteriorated) with the rest in such poor condition so if I repair the bad bits now the rest will soon fail.
