I have been running Microcat for a long time on my ancient Panasonic Toughbook which I now use just for diagnostics. It runs XP.
However I just dug the disc out to install it on my new Windows 10 (64 bit) machine and it will not install even after trying compatibility mode.
Anyone running it under Windows 10? If so is there a different version?
Difficult to explain without going into cracks and stuff, but it won't run under 10 unless you get the paid for version. Have you tried the online one at

I gave Rutland Rover a copy and he failed to get it running under Win 10 too. I suspect it isn't that it's Win 10 but that it's 64 rather than 32 bit as some of the more specialist stuff we use at work will run under Win7 32 bit but not Win7 64 bit.

Looks like I will be hanging on to XP for a while longer.

I am Running Microcat 3.7.0.3 July 2014 on a 64Bit PC with Windows 10 using a Virtual Machine (VMware) set up as XP, so it is possible, just a little trickier than normal.
That's probably the difference. The version I have, which is the one that people are trying to run, is version 2.0.3.24 dated September 2006. Obviously too old to run on newer versions of Windows (backward compatibility never has been a Microsoft strong point.....).
Well, whatever is running within that Win XP virtual machine is being run on just that - XP, not the host operating system. Anything within that virtual machine is effectively blissfully ignorant of the host operating system - it could be anything, linux, OS X etc.

I just keep my old Dell laptop running XP for most car stuff :) Just easier that way, and I don't have to worry about setting any of it up again if I change/wipe my usual laptop. Plus, it has a serial port, so no chasing USB adapters that I've inevitably used elsewhere in my day job and probably lost.
Phew, as suggested I have just set up a virtual XP machine using the vmware free edition:

It has gobbled up 40 GB of memory for the XP virtual drive!

I am on microcat 2002.9.0.0, seems to be very ancient. Is it worth getting a later version? If so where from?
Glad to hear that you have also got this going.
I am not a big fan of VM software and for sure have plenty of older equipment including XP laptops I could use for this, but it is nice to be able to fire it up on my GOM equipment for the sake of convienince more than anything as well as my somewhat lesser Home PC.
I wish I'd snaffled some of the Dell 620s that hit the ewaste bin just before Christmas now...
