That's a very common and easy one to sort http://tinleytech.co.uk/product-category/lpg-parts/electrical/solenoid-coils-electrical/?widget_search=yes

Already ordered yesrerday Gilbertd:
Valtek Solenoid coil for LPG filter/shut-off valve (superseal) (#SVAL-SOLCOIL-03)
Should be here tomorrow. Was tempted to buy a whole unit:
enter image description here, but it didn't look quite the same and was twice the price!

Damn- typed for ages then forgot to press reply!
In a nutshell, LPG pressure side replumbed. LPG coolant pipes replaced/ rerouted to eliminate high spots. Reducer relocated to be lower than water level. Another hour or so should see cooling system ready for another flush/ bleed then refill with nice new OAT, after doing vacuum + pressure test to prove that I haven't killed any O rings.
Then brake pads, remove clean all nipples, fluid flush.
If time New OS headlight to replace the one with bullet hole, new wiper motor in NS one. LED bulb fit then....
drive it for a while before BECM/ ECU/ lockset reinstatement.
Then....
drive it a bit more!

Hmmm- as usual with plans, failed to complete. Found entire LPG "wet side" pipe unsupported along entire length of vehicle so spent a fun day with P clips securing it, as well as examining in detail for chafing and weak points.
Tomorrow is another day...
Still, one bright point is that my #1 fob was turned around in a day by Duncan at Fobfix.com. New case, internals debugged and checked for faults (water damage from missing key rubbers) fully tested and confirmed as #1 key. Can't ask for better service than that!
(and no- I'm not a relative!)
New solenoid magnet turned up from Tinley as well

Thought I'd compile a little list to cheer myself up:

  1. finish pressure/ vacuum testing cooling system
  2. fill cooling system with flush and erm, flush
  3. Flush and bleed cooling system with good ole H2O
  4. Vacuum fill cooling system with OAT and no doubt burp and bleed it as well
  5. Brake nipple remove and clean
  6. Flush out old brake fluid and replace with fresh DOT4
  7. Replace brake pads with Mintex. Grease everything greasable underneath.
  8. Plug in Nano and run it around for a bit on petrol and see what fun codes I can get
  9. Ditto with LPG then swap BECM, ECU, ign lock, door handle. Maybe buy Mk3 receiver. While seats out, clean them and carpets. Maybe sort heaters.
  10. replace OS Headlight and fit LED bulb to main/ dip and a Nightlighter to supplementary main
  11. repair NS headlight wiper and do bulbs change
  12. Fix rear window washer and fit new wiper motor
  13. Remove plenum cover, change filters and wiper linkage ball joints (I hate slappy wipers)
  14. Check connectors to heated front screen- RHS doesn't!
  15. Check clearance on Aircon compressor clutch now bearing replaced
  16. Find out why occasional chequebook on HEVAC
  17. Diff and transfer box oil change
  18. Autobox oil and filter change
  19. Drive it till something else breaks :)

Hmm, maybe a topic for handy folk you might not know about like that would be good.

Topic started Gordon. Don't know if you can make it a sticky or stick near top of the list though!

Pleasingly, the car now runs worse than when I first started working on it. Multiple missfires, backfires, I obviously haven't lost my touch.
Off to check stupid things first, like having got plug wires backwards or something.
Unhappy...

Like me yesterday, started but did not idle, only when fiddling with throttle. Forgot to plug the steppermotor...

Ah well Tony- I'll head back to workshop with box of matches and your advice! Ta!

Isn't there a thing where you can end up with the coil lead plugged into the idle stepper socket and vice versa?

Nothing would surprise me! Off to Docs now so giving up for the day. Taken some Nano readings to interpret when I have a sec.
Any other suggestions as to what I've screwed up most welcome :)
Actually, any words of encouragement would be equally welcome. Having lost most of "festive" season time opportunity to work on car, I'm feeling much time pressure to get this thing sorted and out of workshop.

Misfires and backfires would normally point towards plug leads swapped so plugs aren't firing when they should and are when they shouldn't. Or an iffy signal from the crank position sensor.......

I was thinking down that road too. Have ordered 2 new coil packs as well. The oil leaks before can't have helped their longevity. Maybe the oil has got to the CPS. Perhaps the flex plate's on its way out. Mega pessimism rules at the moment. Have bu&&ered up something moving the gas stuff round too. No light on gas switch :(
On the plus side, I've now got an endoscope/ borescope that plugs into my Galaxy Note so can operate blindly down the back of the engine...

The IACV and coil packs have the same connectors on them. Coil packs are black, and IACV is grey. it's not been unheard of for them to get mixed up on reinstall as they come from the same part of the loom.. and it will cause some pretty strange things to happen. (though surprisingly it will run)

Otherwise, if the upper plenum has been off, then could it be a vacuum leak from inbetween upper/lower manifold?

No light on the gas switch.. sounds like a connection problem, or power problem at the gas ECU end. If it's the standard type of AEB changeover switch, then I think they must use a serial link or something similar, to control all the LED's and the input from the changeover switch. So failure of that is possibly a bad connection.

Is there diagnostic connection to the LPG ECU still? Is it also worth checking the fuse for the power to the LPG ECU?

Interesting on the camera/scope... Sloth has a separate unit with the camera on the end, and was useful for having a poke about to see what was catching my manifold from sitting down properly...

Search Amazon for the endoscope. I got this one:
DBPOWER 8.5MM 2M 2MP Cellphone Endoscope for Android System with OTG and UVC Function & Compatible with laptop (USB adapter included).
My suspicions are upper plenum, it was a beach to get back on and didn't seem to seat with a satisfactory thump!
I didn't disconnect coil pack feeds (but will when my new ones turn up from LRD). Did clean IACV though.
Probably going to pop the upper plenum off to do coil packs- be a good chance to see if I've screwed up any HT lead connections.
I've never tried diagnostics on LPG yet (long story), but will do as part of fault finding.
Onwards and upwards- managed to reverse the blue RR into the Doc's wall this evening, fortunately with the towbar. Must fix my reversing lights, one day...

Having reflected overnight, I'm going to do the lock tests on Nano today and put all the original electrics back on car. I'm suspicious of the temporary Motronic ECU as it's reporting weird settings (4.0 L etc).
New coil packs won't be here until tomorrow so can't do anything with those anyway.
If time, I'll do the brakes as well cos don't need a running motor to do those! Also my mate needs my large axle stands to do clutch on his Ford Ranger at weekend.
Hopefully worst case I'll just have to re-sync BECM/ ECU. Will plug in LPG diagnostics of various vintage to see what that's telling me as well...

Another good in parts day!
Friend needed used washing machine moving and installing in his Mum's flat, Time we'd lugged it up the stairs, found the feed pipe washer was split and bought a new one. Found the waste pipe was leaking and located and fitted a new one it was 1330 by then so not much car time left.
Tested locks with Nano. Both fronts have microswitch problems so need replacing.
Started on brakes, Went surprisingly well apart from spending 10 mins with wheel nut lock cap remover trying to remove nuts with concave caps, which proved to not have security locks fitted! Broke plastic cap remover. Flushed 1 caliper, cleaned nipple, greased sliders, replaced $hitpart pads with Mintex- only 3 wheels on my wagon left to go tomorrow :)
Oh yes, dropped my soldering iron in a bucket of antifreeze which went pop in a rather cute way. Some days you really should stay in bed...

The BPR6ES fit on my heads...

However the old set from my old engine/heads were the smaller socket on them... they were BCPR6ES - I'm guessing the same thing but with the smaller socket head..
