So having carefully driven around all week with an EAS soft fault whilst waiting for new rear bags to arrive, yesterday I hit a pothole and bang, it went into hard fault. I heard the rear bag go.
So today, I have just had the new bags fitted and it is still in hard fault mode. I have raised the back end and disconnected the battery to do a 'hard reset' as suggested by my local 4x4 shop but to no avail. Any suggestions?? Gilbert has offered to do the job for me but is unable to get to me until next week and due to health shite and location, I really need the Beast for mobility.

Unfortunately, disconnecting the battery does nothing apart from unset your windows, sunroof and radio. Your local 4x4 obviously know Jack about the P38 and its ways! There's no such thing as a "hard reset". Only way you can clear the fault is with a dedicated tool- Nano, Faultmate, Hawkeye etc. You can still download EASUnlock v2 from RSW free, but you still need the correct custom cable to interface with the laptop.

I did wonder about the hardreset advice but have seen it spoken about on the 'other side' so I tried it. But having just spent 30 minutes reading here http://www.rangerovers.net/newrremedies.html#suspension I realise now it is going to have to go to the shop or I am going to have to wait for Gilbert. It is right down on the stops on all 4 corners so it is not a comfortable ride though and I live in the boonies. All because of a sodding pothole.
I can download the software but don't have the cable :o(

Drop me your address and I'll send you my EAS Kicker, which will just plug in and reset a hard fault and should get it up and running again.

Just send it back when you're up and running again. If I send it out tomorrow, it will get to you on Monday.

In the mean time - have a look here: Manual Jumpering and you can probably use the method here to get some air into the system and into each air spring to get you off the bump stops until you can get the fault reset and normal operation resumed...

The software comes with a PDF that explains how to make the cable. I just soldered the extra wire onto the lead for my OBDII reader - and to be honest the EAS socket gets a hell of a lot more use than OBD! The bits are a couple of quid from Maplins, or wherever.

Did the EAS kicker turn up?

eBay or a breaker are probably the best places for the delay timer relays, though they don't generally seem to fail.

Is yours missing?

I am hunting around now for a relay ............... there is a question over whether it is kaput or not as there is no communication going on.

If you are getting no communication, then it's worth checking the connectors in the LH footwell behind the kick panel as the EAS diagnostic lines go through there and are known for corroding, which will stop you from getting any communication.

Didn't get a PM through on RR.net? Well haven't had any notifications of one... I'll go have a look though.

I think my return address is on the postage label, so just send it back there when you've finished with it.. no hurry as I don't need it for anything else at the moment as I'm away for work this week aswell!

Marty, he's bringing the car over to me tomorrow. First thing will be to see if my EASUnlock or Nanocom will connect, if not, it'll be drop the panel and check the back of the socket for corrosion. If that looks OK then I'll have the kick panel off and check in there. If I don't find anything and still can't connect, I'll try nicking the delay relay off the SE (and see if it has one or the PO has swapped it for a standard one).

Austin has just left, a very happy man. After a 2 hour journey on the bumpstops, I plugged the EASUnlock cable in, gave it a wiggle to clean the contacts, connected immediately, read the faults, unlocked the ECU, cleared the faults and up she came. A bit sluggish as the pump isn't in the prime of life so we went inside for a coffee. 20 minutes later, the right rear was on the bumpstops and you could hear the air escaping. The guy that fitted the new Dunlop rear air springs hadn't pushed the pipe in fully so pushed it all the way in and the hissing noise stopped. The squirty bottle of fairy liquid and water showed no more leaks so he's set off for the hour and a half drive back as he can travel at a sensible speed now.

Even changed the rubber on his rear wiper while he was here as he hadn't worked out that you can stop it by opening the tailgate while it's in mid sweep......

Spoke too soon. Just had a phone call from him. Halfway home he got the beep, beep, beep, EAS Fault 35MPH Max, but it has stayed at normal height which seems odd. He's got Marty's EAS Kicker with him so I suggested he tried plugging that in and seeing what it did, nothing is the answer although now he has a car at normal height but only the top LED lit on the display. We're now suspecting a problem in the connector behind the kick panel as he'd just driven through a rainstorm so if water is getting onto that from somewhere, that might explain it. But at least he's not on the bumpstops again.

Poxy effing car!!!! I was as happy as a pig in shit until all of a sudden, interrupting a good tune on the radio, I heard Beep Beep Beep.
I stopped at Dads on the way home and the car is still at normal height though all 4 lights are lit and I have the higher light on and the 35 max warning. Just got in and it is still as normal. I plugged the kicker in and wriggled it about but all that seem to do was turn the 4 lights into one ..... the top one. It is a sodding long way back to Gilberts especially if the car makes a monkey off me again as it did when Gilbert plugged his toys in. Took him about 30 seconds to get it all ok.
All I can think of doing for the moment is buying the lead, I have the software already, and trying to replicate what Gilbert did and then calling into his place again when I am down that way.
