Definitely check the connectors behind the kick panel.

There is one that as well has having the EAS OBD port connectors in it, also has all the feeds from the ride height switch, and the inhibit button - so if one of those pins is corroded and not making proper contact, or dropping out occasionally - then it could cause the problem.

Sounds like it had a 'soft fault' if it held air in it, as if it was hard fault then it would drop back to the bumpstops.

If you do get a fault, and it doesn't drop then worst case if you either unplug the delay timer, ECU, or even just the valve block, then it will hold the air in the springs and will keep you riding at whatever height it's at - which makes for a bit more of a pleasant journey than on the bump stops!

The only other thing I can think of is possibly a rogue height sensor, if it randomly hits a bump or something and jumps out of range then it could cause issues that you are seeing aswell.

If it is still at ride height in the morning, I will unplug the relay ............... I am too tired to go back outside and do it now.

It should stay up overnight now we've sorted the leak. You saw my SE that hasn't been started in 9 days and it may not be at full height but it's still not on the bumpstops. I did suggest that it could be an iffy height sensor but I wouldn't have expected it to give an out of range signal for long enough on the roads you were driving on. Unless it got drowned in the storm.......

What pees me off, Gilbert, is you did a cracking job there ......... everything was hunky dorey. I'm happy, you're happy and an hour later the bloody thing kicks us in the nuttz

The state of play after today.

So this morning I go outside and it is sitting approx a bit above halfway between normal and the stops. Start it up and it runs ok to Dads. Was at Dads about an hour and then I take him shopping but the back is down when we came out of his house. We go shopping and when we come out of the shop, the back is up again to where it was earlier.
We go back home and it is riding fine, no bumping along. So I park on his drive and text Gilbert. When Gilbert answers, we had a chat by text and I took the relay out which although I got it out ok, looks like it could be fun getting it back in.
I was parked at Dads from 130 until I left him tonight at 715 and it never moved. I drove it and it rode ok .... not as good as usual but not on the bloody stops.
This is becoming infuriating!! After a week on the stops and not responding to Marty's kicker, it behaved perfectly when Gilbert got his hands on it. All faults cleared and I left for home a happy bunny.
All I can do now is wait for the postman ........... I have bought a diagnostic cable ( I got one with the same connections as yours, Gilbert) and hope when I plug it in, it will play ball. Of course, I am going to have fun putting the relay back in first. I can't understand why it won't accept the kicker yet as soon as Gilbert plugged in, he got everything moving. It is starting to look like another run down to Peterboro' Monday evening. I just hope the air holds enough to make it an easier journey down than Thursday.

Austin has just left after another session and I think we found the problem. Pulled the kick panel off and the connector was slightly green but not as bad as I expected. Cut the plug off, soldered and heat shrinked the wires. Tried my EASUnlock and got some very odd goings on. Rear came up but front didn't, sat there with the light showing access height with standard flashing but it didn't do anything. Then realised that the pump wasn't running. Told it to run from the software and it did but still doing odd things. After the pump had been running for a while, now I could raise the car from the software but it still wouldn't behave itself when told to with the software disconnected. Pump still not choosing to run. Decided to see what the Nanocom made of it all. Everything looked fine except for one thing, Thermal switch state reported as Hot even though I could put my hand on the pump without removing my fingerprints. Warm but definitely not what you would call hot. Put a wire jumper on the back of the socket to short out the thermal switch and everything works as it should. Pump cuts in and out when you expect it to, goes to whatever height you tell it to either from the Nanocom or from the switch on the dash. Seems that he's got an intermittent thermal switch that is going open circuit as and when it feels like it.

No leaks were found but thinking about it, there can't be any. It was sitting at somewhere between motorway and access height a couple of days ago when he took the timer relay out and it still was when it got to me, with the timer relay still out! So the EAS hasn't been doing anything for a couple of days and it hadn't sunk to it's knees. As the pump seemed a bit down on output and now has an iffy thermal switch, he'll be getting a new one and swapping it over the weekend. Hopefully now all sorted, hopefully......

Good to hear! Shame I'm away as I've got a couple of refurbished pumps sitting on the shelf ready to list up for sale on exchange when I get back at the end of June!

Maybe I should make thermal switches a standard replacement part on refurbished pumps I do... though they are a PITA to change (well to get the brushes back in nicely!

If you end up swapping the pump and don't want the old one anymore Austin, then I might be interested in buying it to add to the pile of ones I have on the shelf already that need refurbing...

Will mine last until the end of June, Gilbert? Cheapest pump I have found so far is £120 ( they are all new ones) . thermal switches are £12 and Marty has already answered my next question lol. I was going to ask if they were hard to change.

Don't see why it won't last. Now the leaks have been sorted it won't have to work overly hard and as it isn't working overly hard then it should never get hot enough to have caused the thermal switch to trip. It wasn't that hot even after filling the reservoir from scratch..

I'll wait then. At least I know Marty's ones will be good. I'll keep my eyes open just in case one becomes available at a reasonable price but I would rather put the money in his pocket than a strangers.

I appreciate it! But if is does get too tired, then I won't lose any sleep over you getting one elsewhere.... but I would still like the old faulty one to add to the box of bits :)

If you come down to the RR Summer Camp at the start of July, then I can supply one then and we can all get it fitted then!
