It was fathers day here too but all I got was a text from my daughter this morning. Just got back home after a weekend in The Hague (or Den Haag as you call it) and Scheveningen. I spent the weekend being force fed herring (as it was the annual herring festival) and large quantities of alcohol with a friend of Dina's who works there. Best part is filling up with LPG in Belgium. It cost me 26 Euros to fill my tank in Belgium and I've just got home still running on that same fill up.

Scheveningen is a good place to stay, I used to have relatives there, the only one still alive is my nephew, he is volunteer guide on the lighthouse which becomes handy when the Volvo Oceanrace visits the harbour.
New herring, my fav food. When it is on sale they serve a small genever with it called Korenwijn. Best is to take the rest of the day off...

Got the engine back and now have the heads on.

Run into a new problem - the britpart valley gasket won't fit and trying to persuade it resulted in it creasing and splitting.

Does anyone have one spare who is reasonably close to me, or does anyone know where I might get one tomorrow?

Thanks Mark - I'll give those three a try in the morning!

Such a pain in the arse. Just when you think you're getting somewhere, after totally not panicking about pulling more threads out while torquing up the heads, a bloody gasket stops play...

How can Britpart screw up a gasket? It was miles out.

Had something similar whan fitting mine recently. Couldn't get it to sit nicely and get inlet manifold bolts in. I put it down to my use of Hylomar spray round the coolant ports making it too "sticky" to slide into place. Then tried a genuine LR one- fell nicely into place.
I hate it when stuff fails after midday Friday- means you're usually stuffed for the weekend.

If it's from island4x4, I often fight with them, it's a put all the bolts in by a few threads, you have to wiggle the inlet before you can get all the bolts, you'd think copying a gasket would be easy,, obviously not !..

Yeah its one from Island. I was trying to get it in by putting two bolts in one side, and then convincing it downwards to get two in the other side... but it just wasn't going to have it.

Island has a lot of stuff from B'part, My last orders all go to LR Direct and choose Bearmach when possible.
I also do the valleygasket with 4 bolts to hold it in place. Not on the corners but a bit to the middle and then do front and rear seals to hold it.

So that's TWO gaskets Britpart have managed to screw up - one of the rocker cover gaskets needed one of its inserts drilling out. I won't be bothering with any more of their gaskets.

It's done though - after spending nearly 5 hours trying to get the gearbox to line up yesterday, everything was plumbed in and finished off today.

I'm relatively certain this car is cursed. It's tried to set fire to itself twice, then tried to cook itself, and now, in collusion with the carport, its tried to crush itself last night...

The sag in the roof line isn't as apparent in the photo or as bad as it was before jacking it back up and jamming another post on the other side.

Need to bleed a cooling system with a car stuck on uneven ground? EAS and nanocom to the rescue!

Excuse the horrendous audio quality, and the berk looking to see if a hose is still leaking... it runs!

No more squeak and a thermostat that opens.

Next job.... oh look, another one with a hole...

I've got one with no corrosion at all in that corner that you can have :)

Ah, that'd be the the extra ground clearance model, right? :)

That's the one. Most of it's fairly intact. most of it doesn't leak and definitely no corrosion.

I shall pass :)

It's just passed its MOT too. One advisory - handbrake only effective pulled right up. All the others from last year now dealt with :) Mine's next this week hopefully... wonder if I'll be so lucky?

Well, it wont fail on rear brake pipes anyway...

Mine also passed its MOT, once I explained the P38 ABS light oddity :) My flexible polylock exhaust section that replaced my middle silencer was described as 'adequate' somewhat amusingly. No real advisories!

The red one is running well. No odd noises and so far, no leaks. From the engine, anyway. Of course, it wouldn't be long until the car decided to cripple itself again. Front passenger side airbag now deflating rapidly. Pair of front airbags on the way, if that doesn't solve it, valve block time.
