If you're going for the bluetooth ELM, be wary of which one you buy as there are some out there that don't talk to the app. <br>
I use Torque Pro and OBD Fusion on my Android Galaxy Note and https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009NPAORC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which seem to play nicely together.

All the adaptor needs to do is convert the serial data on the diagnostics bus to something the PC can speak. The software on the host computer is responsible for asking the device to spill its guts, and interpreting the resulting runes.

ELM arrived today and I'm quite surprised the only fault code I have is P0154 o2 sensor circuit no activity detected ( bank 2 sensor 1)

Hopefully that will explain my slightly erratic idle.

More than likely - have a look at my thread on here regarding O2 sensors and how much it affected the running of my RR at idle!!
