Still getting an overheating problem.
Just watched a video on testing the water pump and it shows that if you can wiggle the fan then the pump is faulty.
I can wiggle my fan using both hands, not a huge amount but should it be rock solid with no movement.
Im sure ive bled the system well this time and it seems to be ok round town, just on dual carriageways its overheating now.
I believe it should be solid with no movement
and following on from my post in the other thread, a floppy water pump would cause insufficient flow and it'll start to leak very shortly too.
Just looking at purchasing now.
Im a bit confused with Island 4x4 part numbers. Its STC4378 from what I gather but they have Aitex STC4378G or MEYLE GMBH STC4378M both state OEM
If it were me, I'd go for this one http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/water-pump-1994-airtex-stc4378a-p-6826.html. They list it as genuine Airtex. The G that you mention above isn't a stock item and they don't use the phrase "genuine" anywhere.

I used an Airtex one on mine when I changed it last year, and it looked the part and seems to do the job!
Changed over today.
Took me about an hour rubbing off the old gasket.
The old pump looked like it was covered in some kind of rubberised filler, so whether it had a major crack or something in it before.
I am concerned though as one of the long bolts was covered in oil.
It will be, it runs through the front cover where the timing chain runs. You'd need to worry if it wasn't and at least it stops that one from seizing in.....

The original gaskets were coated in a rubbery substance (at least on one side IIRC) so it's probably the remains of that

OB, sorry for not being clear, I meant that the water pump had this substance on the front exterior and quite a bit of it to.
Anyway, I'm still overheating above 2k rpm so its not the pump at fault.
