My little "office" in the corner is the only place that has any heat- even though it blows the earth trip every time I switch it off, hence time spent in front of PC getting feeling back in fingers.
Had a wobble at post #154 when BECM forgot what/ who it was for no reason, but put big boy pants on and just put in whatever options seemed to be appropriate, saved them and it works. No doubt will have to revisit once I've read up on them to check my guesses were correct.
Thought it slightly odd that sync code for Motronic/ BECM was only 3 digits but hell, it works so no point in thinking too deeply about it.

The motronic code can be three or four digits I believe - if I recall, there was a bug in the nanocom that wouldn't let you enter a 4th digit on some older software version if yours decided it was four digits.

Thankfully when mine threw its toys out the pram, considering I'd never updated it, it was a 3 digit code...

I must admit when I first got the Nano I was wary of even going into the BECM settings in case I screwed something up. When I finally did, I found mine thought I had a Thor. Changing it to GEMS didn't seem to make the slightest bit of difference though. I have discovered an interesting one. I recently plucked up the courage to change something and turned off Passive Immobilisation and while in there I noticed that Intermittent Wipe was set to Disabled. This seemed pretty odd as intermittent wipe works perfectly (or has since I filled the switch with contact cleaner). I have noticed a difference though. Now, if I have the wipers on and stop at a set of lights, they go into intermittent while stationary and go back to continuous as soon as I start to move, just like my works Renault. Not sure if it's a good thing or not but at least we now know what that command does.

Funny you should mention the wipers having a fit, mine act as though they have a rain sensor sometimes ( unless they have) will stop totally, restart when rain hits the glass,, weird I know !

I'm sure I've seen a reference to a rain sensor somewhere through my wanderings through BECM sub menus?!
EDIT- what I saw was (from BECM programming guide):
· Moisture detect: This enables the moisture detected warning facility.

That's the 'speed sensitive wipers' option isn't it? I turned it on on mine, and it does just that. Interestingly, I think I read in the nanocom / blackbox documentation that this only works on cars of a certain year or later, though mine being a bit of a bastard-lovechild, I figured I'd give it a go, and it works.

Never figured out what moisture detect is all about though... didn't fancy changing that one :)

Perhaps it's for us ageing drivers on long drives? On the blue one, in theory, I could do around 700 miles without stopping for fuel. I think I might have leaked, or more likely exploded, by then :)

This is a typical BMW heritage. Or as OB suggests, maybe Bavarian people are all at age. Reminds me, the first 2CV had that in 1959 already, the wipers stopped at a trafficlight but that was because they were driven by the speedocable ha ha.

Moisture detect doesn't do anything. The option is there, but to my knowledge it was never implemented. There isn't a moisture sensor anywhere on the vehicle.

My guess it was one of the features that was planned, but never actually made it to production!

Bloody BECM lost it's memory again today! Plugged in Nano (ign off) and went into BECM- settings menu. As soon as I did, beep from dash "Market Not Set" and Nano crashed!
At least I'm getting faster at re-entering the info! Did get confirmed Settings Saved kind of message after...

Must have done something wrong in my BECM settings as it seems a strange coincidence that BOTH front foglight bulbs are flashing up Failed messages on panel.
Radio doesn't power up either. Hope that's not the end of my DSP system.
Still, it drives, on petrol and even occasionally on LPG. I'll give it a bit more of a shakedown tomorrow. It's sitting on drive outside house NOT leaving oily drips, and no coolant has run down drive yet...

From memory mine is different to that shown in the Nanocom documentation. The front fogs have something like sidelights as the setting which I've assumed to mean they can be switched on with just sidelights and have always assumed that other options would be dipped beam or not fitted, maybe you've turned them off?

Today gave her a run to get some petrol, petrol light on lpg switch even came on occasionally! Runs well.
Todays problem- bloody RH (Drivers side) bonnet catch is jammed so I can't open it. Cable's not broken (yet).
Car's not been named Patience for nothing.

2 hours to open bonnet. 3.4 degrees in workshop. Now need new cable. Not a good day so far.

How did you get it open in the end? My drivers side catch was sometimes giving me the bonnet open message even though it was so I decided to adjust it. In doing so I got it to the point where it wouldn't release properly and the bonnet was stuck shut. No amount of pulling on it would get it open so I had to look for another way. From underneath I found I could just see the conical bit sticking through and managed to get a length of quarter inch steel bar onto the cone. Jammed the lever out so the cable was releasing the catch, put the end of the rod on the cone and tapped it with a hammer, bonnet popped open.

Similar combination of actions as yours in the end. Visibility of conical section was severely impaired by, well many things, I deeply regretted not wearing my safety specs (I normally live in them) when I filled both eyes up with cr@p the first time I tried.
Only got myself to blame for the cable destruction as I had the largest pair of Moles I own clamped on the cable inner for pulling purposes and broke several wires doing them up too tight.
The "bonnet open" switch will not be re-connected as microswitch was already iffy. If I'm too stupid to notice the bonnet isn't latched I deserve to be hit in the face with it. Had exactly that with an RS1600 Mk1 Escort once. Didn't do up the 2 very visible safety pins on the front of the bonnet and was very surprised to see it fly up, off, over the roof and embed itself in the verge!
