Was there a particular spec of car that did NOT have a sunroof? Was it simply an option?

From what i can see it seems to be low spec cars that were missing it? Would be good to confirm though.

I don't have a sunroof in mine but it was a special order for the police with only the options they requested but my '96 HSE Ascot does. I suspect it was only the lower spec ones that didn't have one but you never know. Some of the limited editions such as the Bordeaux were actually a low spec, not much above base, but from what I can find, they had a sunroof. Personally I can't see one being necessary with AC, all it does is encourage water leaks and increase wind noise.

yeah exactly, I'd much rather it wasnt there. Just pondering future options, my shell is pretty rusty. So wondering if its worthwhile trying to find a tidier car, perhaps with mechanical issues, and potentially swap the good bits over. If i was gonna do that, i think it'd have to be a non-sunroof car. But having perused ebay a little, it seems finding one without a sunroof is rare, and they are almost always lower spec cars, eg manual 4.0/2.5's

mine is a base model , no sunroof. it's a 97 model that had the se lettering removed from it before it was sold , i think it had something to do with the next model why it was removed.
ps i have 4 others that have sunroofs .

I had a 97 4.0 SE I bought as a project and sold on when it was all sorted. That had a sunroof so it seems the SE came with one too. To swap bits over and keep things compatible, you'd need to look for a 97 or earlier. Lots of minor changes for the 98MY so you could run into problems with bits that aren't interchangeable.

The better condition cars are likely to be younger models too which adds futher complexity. I will bear that in mind when looking.

There's this one that looks decent (no rust on the rear wheelarches) but is an HSE so almost certainly will have a sunroof. It's in North Bristol and I've got the contact details for the owner if interested. https://www.rangerovers.net/threads/old-girl-needs-a-new-home.360088/#post-2423889

mine may not have a sunroof but it still has a water leak in the top left hand side of the roof, i think that's where it is .

A friend in Italy went crazy over a long time for this, and at the end it was a very small "hole" in the seam between the A-pillar and the roof itself, that was weeping water inside the cab. Go figure ....
