A pre production P-38 would qualify as Unicorn poop!!
Interesting to see the "Vents" on the side forward of the doors.
Those obviously did not make the final cut for production, yet were added back in the
next incarnation in 2003. Are they real, or just a cosmetic plant on?

Welcome. For Bolt's information, there was a batch of, I believe, 50 pre-production cars built in early 1994 in every different spec that was going to be offered for sale, so 4.0 litre, 4.6 and diesel, auto and manual, base spec through to HSE and a few specials such as at least one liveried up as a police demonstrator. These were all registered with MxxxCVC numbers so are known as the CVC cars. That one is one of the very first being M246, the police liveried one was M751CVC. They were the ones that were originally shown to the press prior to the official launch and offered to deaers to get their verdict on it too.

Hopefully the vents are stuck on and someone hasn't butchered the wings. The wheels are very late Vogue SE ones too. Just a shame you have no idea which wheels it was fitted with originally to put it back to standard as the CVC cars were fitted with the various ones that were available at the time.

Yes unfortunately the wings have been cut to insert the vents from hell.
Fitted in 2003? no idea
What makes the situation worse is; the wings are unique to the pre production cars, I will post a pic and show you why.
M246 was built I believe May - June 1994.
Some parts have tags/stickers stating parts made January 1994.
Unicorn poop yeah folks have said that!! and its sitting on my drive.
I am looking at a set of wheels that were on M247 and on M245 so guessing M246 should have them, they are immaculate condition with new tyres, travelling 450 miles to pick them up.
Same wheels on M751
Car is sitting on 18 inch comets.
Hoping to get M246 to some shows would be great to park next to M751.

A little more info about M246 CVC
It is a 4.0 V8 SE factory fitted manual.
currently has the wrong year seats and door cards fitted.
Looking at the M2 build plate attached to the slam panel it appears to be 14th M2 build.
I cannot find any P38 launch photos or press photos of M246 so I am assuming M246 spent time in the factory.
Being M246 14th built and low chassis number and given 46th CVC P38 registration number.
Given that M201 has a higher chassis number - Thanks to info from the CVC register.
Land Rover did not have an OCD chassis to registering system me thinks.

The same spec as David's was then, 4.0 litre V8, manual and SE trim level.

My photo of M751 was taken a couple of years ago at a Land Rover get together at Billing Aquadrome, Northampton. I was interested as my car is a '98 ex-Greater Manchester Police motorway patrol car.

I fear also the bonnet lettering has been (horribly) updated to the "recent" models. Luckily the original is still available, albeit expensive.
The holes in the wings are a repair than can be made, any good metalworker can restore them.

They've also been put on wrong with no space between Range and Rover. Comparing it with David's pictures of M247 (M2 15), the bumpers have been painted and the front foglights added too. I wonder if LR Historic will be able to supply a build sheet for it so you can find out exactly what was and wasn't fitted originally?
Oh yes there lots of incorrect parts fitted which is terrible shame.
The bonnet lettering is gone.
Black paintwork has a metal flake addd to it - looks terrible.
I am going to address some serious rust at the rear - usual places.
Sort out running gear, front is almost done.
Fit a new exhaust and get it legal again.
Cosmetics will come later.
