So Imgur have blocked users in the UK from accessing their site, have done for a while.

Miah reminded me the other day that I'd mentioned something about putting some mitigation in place. I have a couple of things in mind, either:

a) modify posts containing imgur links to point through a third-party proxy

b) download photos from imgur and host them locally where possible

Or I guess c) some combination of the above.

Both would require the content of your posts to be edited to change the link, which obviously I'd do with a script, damned if I'm doing every single one of them by hand over and over.

A further refinement would be to devise some sort of plugin for the forum that would just sort this automagically in the background, which would involve upgrading the forum software, which would involve me taking a bit of time to actually package up the updated software.

Thoughts, anyone?

If there are any pictures I want t see that are hosted on Imgur, I use the free version of Proton VPN which puts me in the Netherlands so the images then appear. However, I had a large number of pictures on there and it is possible to download them, but.... In order to download them you have to be logged in, which you can't do if you are in the UK, So I used the VPN to log in, downloaded all my pictures, closed my account and have since saved the pictures to my Google drive instead. The downside to that is that the metadata of the pictures has been changed from the date they were taken or uploaded to the date they were downloaded. So I no longer can look at them and see when they were taken.

I've now been using Imgbb.com instead to host pictures I need to link to. I've not managed to link to anything on my Google drive for some reason as the forum software needs a proper link showing the image as a .jpg file which Google drive doesn't do.
