Last year I had an intermittent book symbol and Gilbertd kindly read/cleared it for me and IIRC it was for a stuck blend flap.

I now have a permanent book symbol and the passenger side vents seem intent on pumping out hot air regardless of what I set it to.

I'm guessing this means the flap is now properly stuck for whatever reason.

Is this something that is only fixable with a new blend motor or is it possible that it's stuck for some other reason and needs taking apart to be freed? I'm reluctant to buy a motor and not need it but at the same time I don't want to take it all apart and find I need a motor that I don't have.

I got one of these form this seller and fitted to the passenger side on my car. Worked fine just had to splice it in to the blend motor wiring.

Looking in RAVE, they're a pain the arse to get to - whole centre console out etc. Makes me want to go new to avoid getting a duff used one.

The problem is working out if it's a worn out motor or gunked up/seized flap in box that actually does the blending.

Is it possible for any items to fall in to the blend box and cause a jam?

My motor had jammed solid so I just changed it. Fairly easy to do as well. A bit of dismantling but nothing to daunting.

There's a "fix" which can sometimes solve sticky flaps- basically screwing in a self-tapper into the main casing joint in the heater box.
As for the passenger blend motor, Robs suggestion will work. I've bought used stuff from Furness before and found it good quality.

I also had to replace the driver side fan. Again got one from Furness works fine now.

I've changed them in mine, the Ascot and the SE and never taken the centre console out. Take the sides off and you can get to them, fiddly but doable. Drivers ones are dead easy if you take the instrument binnacle out, they sit there looking up at you. Usual problem is either the motor goes sticky so takes too long to reach the end of the travel when it calibrates or the feedback pot wears a hole in the track so it reaches a certain point in the travel and stops as there is no feedback. Both can be fixed with a squirt of contact cleaner and, if it is the motor, blasting it with 12V. There's enough slack on the cables to allow you to pull them out and take them apart outside the centre console.
