I set out to do the o-rings and discovered that the matrix itself was leaking, I ended up with a bluebox replacement which didn't look great quality but seems to have worked, having said that it was the early part of this year and the RR has since been SORN'ed and done no miles so it hasn't really been tested. I only really examined (became aware of) the Audi style solution after the event but I think if I was doing it again I would go that route, mechanically more satisfactory in my mind, especially for a long term prospect.

Another problem could be the tail end ,... I have never examined them close up but they fit to two very different transfer boxes so the output housing/tailshaft could well be different.
Also would the larger TC fit in your bellhousing? Dave Ashcroft will have the answers but there must be someone out there who has the bits to compare? Is the D2 ecu controlled like the P38?

A few years ago A BMW mechanic demo'd brake fade for a few of us with a 4 year old 5 series, then changed the fluid and did it all again. Ever since then I try and change the fluid pretty regularly every 3 or 4 years, and I find the regular attention helps keep bleed nipples and such moving freely.

Frozen moisture in a tyre?

I agree it's too much, but the (bigger) American market seems to have a bigger potential 'spread' of price/value,... I used to watch Fast & Loud and the price a vehicle fetched seemed to be as much what someone would pay as tied to any notion of value. Then again top price for an S1 on ebay at present is £99,950, hard to see the 50K difference between it and the next one down in 'value' terms?

Interesting one that, .. having lived in Scotland in the 70's and (Kingston upon) Hull in the early 80's I saw a number of French and foreign vehicles rust away, ... apparently made of inferior material ... except that when I moved to rural SW France in the 00's, I saw many of the same (by then 'vintage' or classic) R4's R5's CX's etc still in daily use! it seemed to me that the French automobile industry simply failed to accout for UK weather and winter salt ??

As your leather is perfect , then the seat foam might be a good option for you, it is the same amount of work to take it all out and apart pretty much which ever route you choose. Light stone interiors are generally a good match I think so I wouldn't worry too much about another 2nd hand one blending in. It comes down to price and if my seat cover had been perfect (it wasn't) I reckon £220 for still have been good value for not sitting askew.

I put mine on my 2 post fairly regularly, I use the chassis, at the front just where it starts to curve up and in to the engine bay, and at the rear just by the radius arm mount, the key is to get the fore and aft weight distribution correct which depends on arm length etc. but is ideally 50/50. Because the chassis is wider set than a defender it is actually pretty stable. I sometimes have an issue for some reason with the RH rear airbag but generally its fine, yes they hang down but usually they're fine.

Not sure about the L322, but put a request on findapart.ie for a passenger seat, the breakers all use it and it saves you ringing round everyone, be precise about the year though the breakers tend not to be experts on Land Rover.

Get a decent passenger seat, bases are interchangeable and the passenger seat usually has a lot less wear.>

+1, easy enough, though the seat is heavy to remove, it makes a huge difference.

And I think all you are buying from them is straight seal profile, it won't be cut and welded at the right lengths and angles to suit the P38, ... or anything else,... I have looked for similar seals for the 2 door classic which are just stupid money these days. Interesting thread though, I have a couple of bad No.9's and have had a search going on ebay for months, which has turned up zip, but they obviously are out there so I need to go back and check the wording. They are not too bad to change, I swapped a door over recently and had to move it across, I knocked the crumbly bits out while I was at it which looks slightly better but obviously the seal loses it's grip at that point.

A breaker did tell me that early ones were occaisionally problematic, but later ones generally OK. He was right in my case in so much as the problem turned out to be the selector quadrant (mine being 2001), sounds like a good result though.

Thanks Dave, that's a great starter for ten :)

... me too; mine starts reliably but always wants about 7 or 8 secs after the preheat lamp goes out. I was aware that timing was an issue but it didn't occur to me that it could be as simple as tweaking the pump position,... has anyone tried that and got a feel for what scale/degree of movement brings results I wonder?

Good to know thanks Gilbert, Champagne is back in stock so I am just ordering tonight.

I want to do mine while its parked up, I was on to Martrim last week, just waiting to find out when Champagne is back in stock. I need to do the sun blind as well (although I have got quite used to the black) not sure if that means extra material or not. Haven't looked at how in comes apart yet.

Looking forward to it, ... it is well impressive that you got everything so well organised to finish the job in the week, any small item missing here and it would take a week to get something sent, I reckon it will take me several weeks when the time comes!

I went for Goodyear Eagle sport last year, I found 60 series tyres were much more readily available and cheaper so guess what I went for... only issue I have found so far is the spare is a swine to wrestle out of the boot. The speedo' is strangely more accurate now.

I put a passenger seat squab in mine recently and its the best afternoons work I ever did, sooo much better. Recommended. It does mean the seat has to come out and come apart, if its the full electric job then it is quite heavy. Well worth it though.

Could be clutch packs breaking up?
