A litre per day?!
In how many miles?
I'll rephrase that so it makes sense- over what distance?
Does the Dutchess leave a puddle when she's standing still?

A litre a day , your self lube chassis system needs turning down, although when I first got mine it used 4 litres over 75 miles,, hence the engine rebuild, 3 stuck oil rings !
400 miles in a day on the motorways, plus maybe 150 pratting around in the previous 10 days.
She doesn't leave much on the ground really, hmmm.
That doesn't sound great!
I'll measure it more closely and report back.
Sounds like she's getting a little tired, but I wouldn't worry to much for the minute, I've got a few engines in my garage that have new rings ect, so when / if it comes to that let me know. I'd say your ok for awhile yet though
Chris, you're a great man to know!! thanks :)
It's a bit disappointing after 106k (from memory) but I guess there's no guarantee on mileage so it's just a lottery really.
I don't know exactly what work my engine has had done to it, I don't think its original to the car and its definitely had at least top end work done to it - but it takes me about 700 miles to go from max to min.
Both of mine must be about to seize up then
Neither use any between oil changes. 2000 miles on blue one, about every 500 on black one so far.
Blimey, mine uses about half a litre between changes every 10,000 miles . OK, so it's only done 50,000 since the full V8 Dev rebuild and what it uses is mostly down to the tiny leak from the back of the valley gasket which is down to the plonker (me) who didn't use enough RTV on the ends of the rubber seals.
Good thing yours doesn't use much Gilbertd- you use that expensive quality 0W-60 or something exotic don't you?
With Morat's oil consumption it would cost you as much in oil as LPG...
The Duchess drinks Halfords 10/40 semi :)
It's perfectly good oil, for the length of time it's actually in the engine!
Yeah, Castrol 10W-60 but I stock up on it whenever Eurocarparts do one of their 50% off all oil weekends. Seems to work well enough though, did 800 miles at a steady 80-85 mph yesterday with no ill effects. At one point I looked down and saw 95 showing on the clock. I considered taking it up to a ton, getting picture of the dash and posting it with the caption, "Eat yer heart out, Smiler....."
Smiler's burns A LOT of oil
Mine hasn't increased in consumption in the 20k I've done in it - and I'm not overly fussed by it at this point... it doesn't smoke, nor is it leaking more than the obligatory usual undercarriage-rust-proofing system requires, so, meh.
Till changing the oil again last weekend I did have 10w40 in it, but have gone back to 20w50 now to see if it changes anything.

but only some of it is lubricant?
Mine seems to have a clean exhaust too... no idea where it's all going. Yet.
Mine seems to do about 800 miles between the max/min levels of the dipstick... which is about a litre to top up again...
And that's on the new short engone from V8 Dev. It is running 10w40, but even so, it's about the same as before I did the rebuild.
I replaced the oil separator, but the last time I had the upper manifold off there was a fairly large (or what I'd imagine to be more than normal) amount of oil in the inlet tract.
I'm also not 100% sure how good sealing the valves are.. they were skimmed, but after everything else I found when getting them back from the local shop... I wouldn't be surprised if they're letting more through and it's using it that way.
Engine still runs nice though...
Mine on the wales trip last month (789 miles) didn't move at all, started on max, finished on max, only downside is I've lost the self lube chassis system, but after the previous engine, I think I'm covered for life.
Hey guess what? They've only got red!
I'll wait....
