I am recently down to one working keyfob so tempting fate. I have had a look at it as best I can, but the fault seems to be the microswitches on the circuit board.
I read a few comments about a guy on Ebay that does repairs. I have had a look and there are several advertising. Can anyone recommend one they have used?

Fobfix did exactly what they promised for me (Recase, fix water damage, test). No complaints about price, workmanship or turnround time

They are not the cheapest. With a new case and gubbins, it is £50, but they look professional. I will give them a try.

I'd only recommend Fobfox... I haven't had a key refurbed by him - but know a fair number of people who have... I've dealt with him about other things P38 locking related, and he knows his stuff with the P38 remotes, and tests them thoroughly..

Sent on the 1st, I got it back today, 5 Sept. It was over the weekend so good turnaround. Postage to them cost £6.45 recorded and insured, so £56.44 all in.
Good case and battery cover and LEDs now work. He even glued the old sticker back on the key.
Problem now is it won't sync. It has always been a bit hit or miss syncing the keys. Seems to have a mind of its own. I have a 2000 MY with the coil behind the ignition key, so it should be automatic. In the past (when both keys worked) I did it by opening the door with the synced fob and I then started the car with the other non synced key and drove round for a bit. It used to sync when it felt like it. Any way to force a sync?

Do it the door lock way (assuming the microswitches are good). If you've got passive immobilisation turned off it won't sync in the ignition.

Aha. Thanks Mr Bean. I remember I did turn off passive immobilisation in the BECM.
Door sync method? Open door lock with the key whilst pressing open button, then close on key whilst pressing close button?

Key in 'ole, turn to lock and hold there, press lock on the fob and hold until the LED starts to flash faster, release button on fob, tunr key back to centre. Then do the same with unlock.

Tried several times. It doesn't want to know.
Will have to change the settings back in the BECM I guess. Unless there is a problem with the key repair.

Unless there's a problem with door microswitches too? Anyhow, turning PI back on in BECM will do the trick

Job done. Switched on immobiliser in the BECM with my Faultmate and it synced. Got two working fobs again.

Spoke too soon. Fob packed in after 1 weeks use. No LEDs, completely dead.
About to send it back to FobFix.

I thought I would update my experiences with Fobfix.
As I mentioned, after repair my fob suddenly died on me after just 1 weeks use and I did indeed send it back to Fobfix.
I then didn't hear from them at all. No acknowledgement or anything that they had received the Fob back.
I sent an email and "Duncan" informed me that he had reflowed the solder and it had sprung back into life and it was back in the post.
I got it back best part of a week later. It worked but the "unlock" button was difficult to get to work. Over the next few weeks it got worse and worse and it took a dozen or so presses to get to work. The other button works fine so it is clearly a microswitch problem. I am worried I am going to be locked out of the car.
I have made repeated efforts to contact Fobfix ...... emails, phone calls via landline and mobile and text messages. They do not or will not answer.
So there it rests while I decide what to do next. I would not recommend them to anyone based on my experiences.
Does anyone have another number for him? The number on the website is just a mobile number. I also think he has a day job.

That's a shame Dave. I found Duncan at FobFix really good (and communicative) when he did mine back in January (new switches due to water ingress) and it's worked fine ever since

I sent another email and made another phone call. No immediate response and I was about to give him a negative review on Google when he suddenly replied. This was after 2 weeks of trying. My fob has now been posted back to him again.
Me thinks he needs a bit more customer focus. You don't just ignore people because it is inconvenient. You stay with the problem until it is sorted.

I'm just about to send another fob Duncans way, but I'll get in touch first to see that he's responding to emails!
Other half has enjoyed her first week of sole use of the '95 so much she's already smashed one fob and ripped off one back box. I've got a bad feeling about letting her use it as her daily driver now.

Got my keyfob back _13 weeks_ after originally posting it!
Both buttons now work. Hopefully that is the end of it.
Next time we need to find someone else.
