Just seen the video, that's an L322. In the video you can see the rear light clusters and tailgate with the reverse lights beside the number plate.
Better spotting than me! Though I was watching it on my phone screen, so not the easiest to see...
So the new tag line of L322's is "don't get one, they'll burn a whole carpark down?"
Lots of chatter around the Instagram/ Facebook communities around whether that's a P38 or a L322.
Thankfully no injuries.
My money's on a 322
Supposedly an L322 with LPG according to someone who was there on one of the FB groups.
So obviously, it must have been the LPG that caused the parked up car to spontaneously combust. Couldn't possibly have been an electrical fault, or coolant, brake fluid or oil dripping on a still hot exhaust....
Probably leaky rocker box gasket dripping oil down on a vey hot exhaust....... I presume that's a problem on the L322 just like our P38's?
The L322's are fairly different.
My money would be on electrical rather then oils dripping on something. There was another that caught fire over on the FullFat forum recently.

It was burning under the bonnet with a nice bright orange flame, it looked like a petrol fire to me although I've never seen LPG burn. Can LPG burn in any sustained manner? I'd have thought it would flash off and be gone unless you had a sustained source of gas, like a pressure relief valve venting but that would have been at the back of the vehicle.
Toggling with the pause button shows first you can see the reverse lights next to the licenceplate, then the round taillights (still pic), so to me it's a L322.
Can anyone tell if this will be a BMW or Jag engine'd model?
If Jag engine'd I wonder if under bonnet petrol return piping has come off..
Or a petrol heater keeping the interior comfy...

With that amount of heat under the bonnet, the interior would very quickly ignite. I don't think there's an obvious difference between a pre-2005 BMW or later Jag engined L322. 2010 got the facelift but the most obvious change then was the front bumper and rear lights but lots of owners have updated earlier cars with those anyway.

Don't think anyone has managed to confirm if its even petrol or diesel yet, let alone if its on LPG or not. The only comment I'd seen was someone on the linked bit from the sun suggesting it was "probably a LPG conversion".
Just as likely its one of the ones with that dodgy R9 marked petrol hose that's failed as the hose isn't upto spec...
Like this bit found down the back of our red P38 being used to repair the snapped fuel line..
Pissing fuel all over the back of the engine. Definitely found in time before it went up...
I doubt we'll ever know what caused the fire if it was a technical fault, it could have been any number of things not even related to fuel.
