Finally got rid of the kids so me and the wife can go to ikea. Didnt get far when i noticed the heater was blowing cold all of a sudden. Turned on the diagnostic spp and temp was 115oC. Then lpg went off. Pulled straight over to be greeted by a steaming cloud rom the bonnet.

Discovered this.

Massive hole in the hose. Recovery on the way. Is it fuse 11 to put the gearbox in neutral?

Im hoping i pulled over in time. Will it live??????

I doubt 115C would kill it, as hoses are at the top there should have been water still in the block. Imaging when the head gasket goes and water is replaced with oil, They can live after that too.

I have a full set of hoses to replace on mine as a precaution. £25 but haven't got round to fitting them as the knocking has taken it off the road for now.

Top right fuse on the drivers seat is the one I believe.

As per GordonJPC reply on another thread.....

Sticking that fuse in would put the transfer box in neutral, which would rule out the gearbox but not the transfer case and propshafts.

Smashing. Thanks for that. Local scrappy has an 02 vogue. I'll see if i can get there before they shut and have a look at it.

Do i put fuse in and then turn ignition on to put box in neutral?

Fuse 11 for trans neutral
If you caught it in time, it should survive. That hose looks a bit "bulgy" in the photo, but it could just be the angle it was taken from.

On the upside, it's nice clean looking coolant - not the moccachino crap you get with a headgasket. Hopefully it's just a duff hose rather than a good hose failing due to over pressure.
115 degrees sounds terrible but if you caught it quickly it's not bad. I don't think it's the actual coolant temp you need to worry about so much as the localised hotspots caused by coolant loss, which it sounds like you avoided.

I also agree, 115c is "ok". Not ideal, but not OTT hot. On a fully sealed system, 115c probably wouldnt even have popped the expansion cap valve. I've had my Audi round there before when the water pump failed and it was unperturbed by it.

I was driving mine for weeks with a leaking radiator (which ofcourse then started leaking more), and due to the extra-leak one morning the wife drove it to work and had the temp guage round into the red with the warning light on. It took about 4 litres of coolant to fill it back up again, but engine seems otherwise fine.

Coolant is nice and clean. Its also green cause thats luminous dye. Put it in to find a little leak.

Where do you get a full set of hoses for £25? I'd quite like to replace all of mine once it warms up a bit outside.

If replacing them all get a new thermostat and the metal flex pipe if you can justify the extra expense. I have heard the metal pipe rusts and restricts the flow.

The metal cooling system pipes do corrode internally, if the car doesn't have a history of nice fresh coolant changes especially. Doesn't restrict those pipes as such, but the rusticles circulating in the system certainly block other tight parts.

New pipe on. £10

Took 6 litres of coolant. Ran it at idle for a good hour whilst drinking beer with the next door neighbour and it held a steady 90oC.

Heater still blows cold unless you give it some revs but the lpg is working so the circuit is more or less there. I'll go back out in the morning and top up if need be and hopefully the air will have worked it's way out. I'm determined to get to Ikea!!!!!!!

Sounds like you still need to bleed the heater rad, did you give it a flush ?
It seems to be a point that picks up the crud as it’s a low point.
