Just rang Martrim to order a headliner kit and the guy I spoke to wasn't sure as what colour and type of headliner was needed as a direct replacement for standard.
If anyone can remember what you bought for Summer Camp I'd be grateful for details. Otherwise I'll have to send a sample.
Whist I'm getting stuff in are there any "known to break" trim fixings et al that should be bought. Or is it more sensible just to get a complete set?

Oatmeal.
Didn't break any clips on mine...
The only trim clips I broke were the little flappy bits that cover the screws on the sun visor clips (the ones either side of the interior light). The hinge but I tried to prise them open from the hinged side so they broke off. Better close up glasses needed......
Thanks for the information. hafta say that Oatmeal looks way too dark on my computer screen. But comparing colours via computer is less than reliable at the best of times.
Actual colour on mine is about as light a grey as you can get whilst still being grey.

Mine was light grey too. Maybe they differed depending on the interior trim colour? Oatmeal would be right if you have the Lightstone interior, light grey on mine as I have a grey interior. The SE has the light blue leather interior and that is grey too.
Interesting. Mine is a model year 2000 HSE with black (Ash Grey) interior, no sunroof if that makes any difference. Far as I know all standard. Says Paint code 696, Trim U on the info panel.
Guess I'd better haunt the local car parks until I see another one to verify colours. Or get Martrim to send me one of their colour card packs.

Mine is also Ash Grey interior so it sounds like the Light Grey would be correct.

Damnit, even after doing 6 on the bounce I can't remember which bits you trim to the edge and which bits you leave enough to fold over. ISTR the front edge being quite critical. It would be worth taking notes before stripping your headlining board.
Don't get too worried about shoving the material into the grab handle recesses. The handles themselves will stretch it into shape - concentrate on the blank one above the driver's head although it doesn't actually need to be recessed at all if you leave the material intact and omit the square trim pieces that serve only to cover up the holes you made for the screws that don't exist :)

Then I need some sensible weather to actually do the job. Assistance lined up too. Just hafta remember to charge up the digital-cam for factory fold over the edge pictures. Picture guide in the files on t'other place looks helpful too. Thought I'd seen a YouTube but darned if I can find it. Done motorcycle seats before, both factory and reshaped, the headliner material looks much more forgiving to handle although the glue clearly takes no prisoners. Guess the important "easy to forget" detail is arranging suitable support for the material so it lies flat whilst being carefully fed onto the backing board and stuck down. Plan A is to use my motorcycle lift as a walk round bench with the material draped round a suitably supported "broomstick". Bike lift is one of the fancy Souriou air - hydraulic ram ones as per Honda race teams et al and makes for a sweet adjustable bench.

You are right about the glue, spray it on both surfaces and as soon as they touch, that's it, it isn't going anywhere. It is definitely a two, if not three, man job. When we did mine we started at the front and stuck down a foot or so at a time. Not difficult to do as the glue must be on both surfaces so any overspray on one surface won't stick. But that does mean you need the other assistant(s) to hold it clear of the backing while you carefully smooth it down. There was a link to a Youtube video of a guy doing a Discovery headlining but it doesn't appear to be there now.

Are braces optional or a vital evidence that the gremlin toll has been paid so the evil critters don't interfere.

Factory colour is supposedly 'Mist Grey'
We went with Oatmeal for the people who wanted as close to Factory as possible. I believe it was the consensus, and it seems to look pretty close. Personal preference though!
Oatmeal is perfect for Lightstone. The braces are essential :)

The sunroof aperture actually makes it easier as the material can be left over the hole (as in the picture), cut out with lots of overlap and then stuck down around the edges. Without it is another concave section that needs plenty of glue to ensure it fits properly all the way along. I know because mine doesn't but my excuse is that it was the first one I'd ever done and it was done on the back lawn as it was getting dark. It annoys me every time I look at it but nobody else has ever noticed it.
I remember the first roof I reragged.
Took the entire sunroof apparatus out to get at the sunroof panel trim correctly.
Did the whole procedure on dining room table as it was too cold to do it out in shed, much to my wife’s dismay.
All went well, trim all fitted nicely to sunroof panel and roof shell itself so we decided to go for dinner as the dining table was unavailable. 3 hours later we get back to see the cat sat on top of what was once my newly regabricated P38 roof panel but what had now become her new scratching post! Jesus wept! Cat spotted my face, did a legger and decided it best not to show its face for about 4 days despite the kids best efforts to search for her!
We laugh about it now.......
Decided on oatmeal colour in the end. Agree its very close to standard despite the Martrim website showing a very much darker grey on my computer. Very fast delivery from Martrim so just a matter of waiting for weather, assistant & spare time to line up to do the job.
