Before you all rush out and update to the latest release, hang fire a moment.

I seem to remember writing on here that I'd found the touchscreen much more responsive after an earlier update, now I have the opposite problem.

Upgraded to release 1.34 (corrected from 1.35 - that's in the future!) and the bottom half of the screen was a pig to use, but the top was fine. The new update gives you the opportunity to rotate the screen 180 degrees, so the cables on the right side for LHD vehicles, I forgot to click this option initially.

Writing on the BB forum, I was advised to reload again, also clicking the kernal overwrite option, so I did that and the 180. I was also told that I'd need to input my activation codes again. It never asked for those afterwards.

Now only the bottom left of the screen accepts any inputs, which ain't a lot of use.

I'm guessing I'll be told it's a hardware fault, but it does seem coincidental...

But I'll wait for a response from BB and take it from there.

Hold off the upgrade until I get to the bottom of this.

Of course, the '38 has thrown an alarm fault that I now cannot clear!

To bring this up to date...

I downloaded yet another update, having deleted the earlier ones from the laptop. I must have then run the update seven or eight times. Each time, I got a little more screen functionality.

Eventually I got to the page to input the unlock codes but...Every time I went to cancel the "?" and input the code, the CANC button would delete one then remain highlighted so I couldn't delete any more.

I slung it in the corner in disgust until this morning, when I brought it to the office to have another bash.

Plugged it in and all works perfectly, codes accepted without issue. I'll plug it into the vehicle when I get home and hopefully clear that alarm fault, but looking good so far.

If you have similar issues with v1.34, then persistence is the key to success!

Final update - hopefully...

Plugged it into the '38 this morning and have full functionality. Happy with that.

Given my Customs sage over replacement brake hoses, I wasn't looking forward to returning it for repair!

What do you all make or know about this enter link description here

It was sent in an email from Maltings - it looks just like my Creader with one or two changes ie - locks to first vehicle used on and then has to be re-licensed or something. It is £93 (my pirate Creader was about £30)

By the way - this is what it claims to do - I'm sure you know this !
OBDII FUNCTION

  1. Read Codes
  2. Erase Codes
  3. I/M Readiness -- I/M Readiness indicate whether or not the various emissions-related systems on the vehicle are operating properly and are ready for Inspection and Maintenance testing.
  4. Data Stream
  5. Freeze Frame -- When an emission-related fault occurs, certain vehicle conditions are recorded by the on-board computer. This information is referred to as freeze frame data. Freeze Data is a snapshot of the operating conditions at the time of an emission-related fault.
  6. O2 Sensor Test -- This option allows retrieval and viewing of O2 sensor test results for most recently performed tests from the vehicle's on-board computer.
  7. On-Board Monitoring -- This function can be utilized to read the results of on-board diagnostic monitoring tests for specific components/systems.
  8. Evap System Test -- The EVAP test function lets you initiate a leak test for the vehicle's EVAP system. Before using the system test function, refer to the vehicle's service repair manual to determine the procedures necessary to stop the test.
  9. Vehicle Information -- The option displays the vehicle identification number (VIN), the calibration verification number (CVN), and other information of the test vehicle.
  10. Retrieve generic (P0, P2, P3, and U0), manufacturer specific (P1, P3, and U1) codes and pending codes
11.Turn off Check Engine Light (MIL), clear codes and reset monitors
  11. Read live PCM datastream
  12. Support CAN (Controller Area Network) and all other
14.Multilingual menu and DTC definitions- English, Spanish, and German, etc
    15.Read pending DTCs
    16.Read permanent DTCs
  13. DTCs search
  14. Supports most of the OBDII/EOBD test modes include: CAN, ISO9141, KWP2000, J1850 VPW and J1850 PWM.
  15. Works on most of 2001 and later OBDII compliant PETROL European vehicles
  16. Works on most of 2004 and later OBDII compliant DIESEL European vehicles
  17. Works on most of 1996 and later OBDII compliant US and Asian vehicles
  18. View & Graph Live Data in Color Graphing and blazing fast refresh rate for better graphing and live data readings.

Read the ad again, Range Rover from 99 onwards, that means the Thor not the earlier GEMS which isn't fully OBD compliant. It is basically an updated version of your CReader with software to talk to other subsystems and the self locking feature so can only be used on one car without paying extra. It'll probably work no better than your RSW software in all honesty.

I've got the Icarsoft for Renault, and Clip. Out of the two of them, Icarsoft is the least useful, as while it can display stuff and clear codes thats about all it can do, and it does alot of that badly (modules that should work don't, I have to use a combination of different car models to speak to all the modules in the Espace etc etc).

I wouldn't waste your money - as Richard says it won't speak to your engine (and if it did, might not do so in a very predictable way or with results you can rely on, I've seen some of the sensor data for pre 2001 stuff when torque and the like is used, and its frequently wrong, such as a battery voltage of 37v on a vehicle that clearly doesn't have any charging issues). As Richard says, the unit is the same hardware as the creader with different software loaded onto it.

If you want to spend money on diagnostics (or need to!) then you'd be better getting something that isn't VIN locked, as you can always either resell it later, or use it on another vehicle if you end up with one, or come into contact with one belonging to someone else.

Something like a Nanocom. Honestly, they're worth the cash.

Thanks all - amazing all the intricacies of what will and what won't work on these gadgets - actually, I realise now my Creader despite being a 'Pirate' in name only, works pretty well - the only problem is the operator - he isn't very good at interpreting the data - but it was a good buy at £30 and eventually it should be possible to understand it. The RSW stuff does the rest pretty well. My poor car performance is linked very closely to the outside/ambient temp here in Spain and now that it is cooler it performs much better - no where near right but noticeably better.
