Very nice job except for the snorkel. If the water is deep enough to get drawn into the air intake, it's deep enough to drown the ignition coils and spark plugs (not to mention getting inside and drowning the BeCM) so isn't really needed.

I've had water up above the wheel tops and been OK in terms of coil pack and water ingress - did worry about the intake though, with the wheels churning the water up a bit higher than the tops of the wheels.

The coils are a bit higher than the wheel tops and don't have that churning issue.

I'd happily fit a snorkel and be comfortable doing it again.

You do have to be sure you have good door seals to protect the BECM though!

Edit: just remembered that guy is in Australia - he might not even use it to go through water. They often use snorkels to get the air intake out of the low level dust thrown up by the wheels out there.

I've had water half way up the windscreen, from the bow wave going through a hole that turned out to be roughly level with the bonnet. The biggest problem was the water running in through the heater...

One of the few driving conditions I'd prefer an oldskool diesel with mechanical injection pump for.

Reminds me of one holiday on 'Shell Island / Mochras' in Wales as a kid, it's a peninsula and the only link road to mainland is a tidal causeway... I canoed over abandoned cars with headlights still lit on that causeway

My wife and I were in convoy during the boxing day floods a couple of years back. We had a BMW tagging along for quite a few miles using us a wading stick to see if he could follow us. That worked well for him until we were up to the doors and he was suddenly left in the middle of nowhere :)

Used to camp there every year with uni friends, was great fun watching people ignore the warnings about what times they can arrive and drive in, think they can drive through the water then get stuck.

Some would just stop in the water, some would drive off the edge of the road and suddenly find themselves in even deeper water and others would drive in to the rocks that marked the edge of the road when the tide was out.

Some people are really dumb.

Went at least a few times a year as a kid and through teenage years. Dad was mad on boating (and also Landrovers for a good few years), at various times had all sort from inflatables, little powerboats, big powerboats to yachts. I've known it snow there in June... didn't stop him from waterskiing all the way from Shell Island to Abersoch and back again a couple of weeks before having a hip replacement.

I've been over the bonnet in my old LHD FH70 Landcruiser in Sierra Leone. Also had to be retrieved when the side of the road collapsed in the rainy season into an illegal mine (hidden deep pit) right on the edge of the road behind bushes. First my rear right wheel went in and in slow motion I managed to jump out, grab the chains and chain it to a tree. The Troopie then pivoted around and the arse end was well in the water full axle. The chain was crossing the road and the locals were not happy as it was blocking them driving at this point. I had requested recovery from my works and they eventually arrived an pulled me out with a Backie land cruiser (pickup to us). Meantime while standing there I had a swarm of nasty black ants decide I was their target and my balls and legs suddenly all started to burn! I looked down and saw the bloody ants but there were so many the only way to get them out of my clothes was to rip them off at the side of the road. Much to the amusement of the local villagers - all of them! watching the crazy white man dancing around naked swiping fire ants off his bits :πŸ˜† :πŸ˜† :πŸ˜†
