The actual coverings for the seats, not the flimsy things you can get to protect the seats.

Are they all the same in terms of shape and dimensions for leather/cloth and manual/electric?

Besides the cars that got the extra fancy leather, I know they at least got a slightly different shape rear bench.

Shape and dimensions would be the same but there are two styles, 3 bar and 5 bar.

Having a look at making replacement covers for mine (driver's seat is showing wear and there's the nick here and there on the rest). Wanted to get a cheap set from eBay, pull the covers off and separate the pieces for a template.

Cloth manual seats are probably going to be the cheapest but wanted to make sure the covers would be the same.

I've got a pair of complete cloth seat bases that the picture on eBay showed to be the same as mine but they weren't when they arrived. Seller insisted he had sent the same ones as in the photograph even when I sent him pictures showing they were completely different. They are 3 bar and you are welcome to them to cut them up. Alternatively I've got a 3 bar cloth seat base cover that is already off the seat which would probably be easier to post.

Is it just the seat bases or are they whole seats?

I was hoping to do the whole lot as I doubt I'll be able to find exactly matching leather. So base, back rest, arm rest and head rest. Bugger, I've just remembered the seats have storage pockets in the back that sound tricky to replicate. Maybe this isn't my smartest idea!

I was also going to use the foam inserts to replace the worn bits on my own. Assuming the right hand bolsters from a passenger seat fit on to a driver seat and the left hand bolsters from the driver seat fit the passenger seat.

I've got a pair of seat bases, a passenger side backrest and a seat base with the cover removed but it is all there. Passenger and drivers seats are the same except for the hole in the side where the armrest bolts on. I wanted a passenger seat base in the same cloth as mine to replace the well worn drivers seat base (as the bases are interchangeable). Bought two seats on eBay and paid full price but told the seller I only wanted the bases and that kept the postage down. Then found they were the wrong colour. Then bought a complete interior in the right colour, didn't bother with the rear seat when I went to collect it but got the rest (including all the interior plastics). I've got the drivers seat (fitted with my well worn base) which I would want to keep but you are welcome to whatever you need from the rest. Don't think I've got headrests though.

Sorry, I lied. The seat back has a headrest on it too.

These guys https://www.theseatsurgeons.co.uk/ do what you're talking about. They're on an industrial estate about 10 miles from me. They measure up your seats and send the details to China where they stitch up replacements out of your choice of hide. Could be worth a punt as I heard they're competitive on price (as you'd expect).

After a bit more thought I think it's a bit of a non-starter as a project. I've never done any kind of upholstery work and starting with a full leather interior seems like a big task!

Last night I realised there's several other leather covered surfaces in the car. Parts of the door cards, the centre console side panels, the steering wheel and I think the glove box and panel under the steering wheel too?

If I did the seats but not the other bits it would get on my nerves having them a different colour (even if it was a close match)!

For what it’s worth, I took the front drivers seat base of the Linley to an upholsterer to get replaced. Previous owner must have sat in and out of vehicle with a rear pocket full of gravel because the leather was torn to bits. Could also have been an angry ex tore the seat with a knife because during the refurbishment I found about a half pints worth of dried Coca Cola had been poured into the rear and front air vents....
Anyway, I digress.... the leather was of fairly high quality and I insisted that the shop match it... final bill to remove old leather, fabricate and match the linings and fit came to $265. Obviously the new leather in no way matches the old worn looking leather pieces but it needed to be done because if the irreparable tears in it.
Added bonus to this was it afforded me the opportunity to repair the common break in the wiring to the heated seat element.....
Price may seem high just for the seat base repair but as the P38s are my pride and joy I don’t mind spending a few quid on them. My justification being that I do all the repairs on these vehicles and that most people would pay $265 for an oil change and a set of wipers at Jiffy Lube!
