I've got a late 2000 P38 with factory fitted sat Nav. The system works fine with maps loading correctly and all functions working well except for the GPS input. It always defaults me 100 miles away. If I go into the 'hidden menu' by selecting settings and then holding the menu button down for 10 seconds my sensor check indicates 0 satelites and reception interference. Has anyone experienced this before. I believe the GPS sensor is in the scuttle panel, but where does this then feed into? The GPS screen or the CD unit in the boot? Are there any other parts or just these three main components? Any help would be appreciated.

I have the very same issue but have not yet found a resolution.
Now that the drivetrain isn't falling off in large chunks I'm up for finding a fix. It's weird having a sat nav that thinks I live in NW London!

The GPS receiver is under the scuttle panel, yes. It goes through a connector there, and then runs through to the navigation drive in the loadspace.

I had a similar issue on my P38 nav drive when I bought it that it always defaulted to somewhere I wasn't, and I believe it was a fault in the drive itself. (I never managed to get it repaired). But it could be that you've just lost the GPS reception, and it's not the drive after all. There is a connector in a rubber housing from the GPS antenna, under the scuttle panel, so maybe this has gotten water in it, and is causing it to give issues....

My Vogue SE did the same. I fiddled with the drive and didn’t get anywhere. In the end I removed the scuttle, disconnected the GPS antenna and refitted it after giving the connector a quick clean and it’s been fine since.

Sounds like a plan! So is where the infamous aircon condenser rotting foam lurks?

David / Marty many thanks, however I have removed my scuttle, found the GPS receiver (one single black wire leading to it). There is a rubber 'block' about 5cm away from the receiver however this appears to be a sealed unit with no access? I have then traced the single black wire back through the bulkhead into the engine bay where it joins the cars wiring harness? Any help would be appreciated.

That 'sealed unit' of rubber is actually the supposedly water proof cover for the GPS receiver connector
