I am looking to buy a replacement brake modulator/master cylinder to rebuild for my DSE as I am not happy with the one fitted. I rebuilt it last year but it had suffered some internal corrosion. It seemed to clean up ok but I beleive that there is some internal leakage as the ABS pump fires up every so-often and the pedal goes soft over time (I am confident that it is not air in the system).

My vehicle ia a '96 model without Traction Control. As I understand it the early rear axle only Traction Control version still has the same physical connections as the non-traction control model. I would like to fit a TCA model along with the correct control module and see if it gives me traction control. If I can pick up the two bits cheap enough then there's no harm in trying.

To that effect, does anyone know the part numbers for the different flavours of Brake Modulator / Master Cylinder?

I believe that STC2778 Is the Booster/Modulator block with ETC - and STC2779 is the NON ETC version (which you'll have at the moment)

It should also be stamped (from memory) on the metal plate with the part number with ETC on the version that has that.

The ECU - I believe is ANR4898 for the version with ETC - though ANR1250 also comes up as an earlier part number on LRcat that says ETC - but I wouldn't be so sure... I would definitely go for the later version ECU...

I might actually have an ABS ECU kicking about in the garage, but I won't be home until the weekend to check, and even then don't know when I'll be about long enough to get it to you!

Thanks for the helpMarty, I shall check the part number on my current unit tomorrow and have a quick hunt on ebay now for the ETC number.

I messaged a speacialist breaker on facebook and was told that the master cylinders (early ones ate least) are all the same. Not sure about this myself so have asked him why they bothered to give them different parts numbers and am waiting to hear back. Otherwise that would suggest that I could simply plug in the ETC enabled black box and I'd have traction control?

The part numbers don't supersede so they are definitely different. No sure how different but they are.

Check your ecu first. Mine has later one with tc but non tc master cylinder.
Master cylinder is a straight swap.

I've got one at home waiting to be fitted.
The ecus are only about £15 On ebay.

Yep, STC2778 IS WITH tc
STC2779 is without.
Same fittings
SXC100010 is later 4wheel tc and won't fit or work, ecu also has different connection

Good tip regarding checking which ECU is fitted, ta. I'll have a look tomorow. Fingers crossed as mine is also a 96 model.

I am finding a number of modulators / master-cylinders with ANR part numbers. Do any of these translate to STC numbers?

According to Microcat, they all use STC numbers so not sure what you are finding.

2 listed on ebay at moment incorrectly listed as anr2238 and anr2239.

Where they got that from I don't know.
Although I have a suspicion it may be on the metal tag on the modulator.

Thanks for the replies, a bit of googling lead to another forum where it was suggested that the ANR2239 unit is the 2 wheel ETC model.

There is one on ebay at the moment that might soon become mine if I can get confirmation. It says ETC on the data plate, so long as it's not 4 wheel ETC.

I have got a "little black p38 book" with my scribblings in over the years.
It says:-
brake booster/ ECU

........to WA410481, no TC ...........................STC2779 / ANR1250
........from WA410482, 2 wheel TC ..............STC2778 / ANR4898

Not sure where ANR2239 fits in.

Someone on RR.net has fitted a later booster to an earlier car. Had to rewire it as I remember. Harness is different.

If I remember, I'll look at the one I have at home and post a picture. It's definitely a 2 wheel tc unit

My 98 (ie WA chassis) has an "ANR 2239" modulator fitted, if that helps.

As long as you get one with that tag on it, you should be fine.
