Well I’m sorry to say I am moving to Ireland! The only bad news with this is that they charge tax on Emissions and then multiply by the engine size!

Brings the P38 to about £2k per year just for tax!

Unfortunately this means I am going to have to move on my 97 P38 HSE in good condition with a few minor issues. Currently on a private plate but will go back to R448 XUD

Known issues

Headliner sags
Aircon needs recharge
Remote central locking (key broke)

Good points

All original wheels and on 2013 19” alloys including two spares!
New blend motors fitted.
Given love and care at last summers meet
Currently having new Union joints fitted.

Done around 120k miles.

Makes complete sense to have an electric van, especially as 70% of Ireland’s electricity come from fossil fuel. Much more efficient to burn it once rather then to burn it, turn it, transform it, transmit it, transform it again, plug it, transform it again, charge it and THEN use it.

Why is it , it’s only England that seems to have electric vehicles shoved down our throat at every opportunity, I used to do 1000 miles plus a week, and I’m sure there’s people here that do the same, I think an electric van/car wouldn’t last to long with that sort of hammering before it was going to need expensive parts replaced, I’m wondering what the actual running costs upto date would be on one with 150k on the clock,, what’s next, milk float racing, lol

It's actually CO2 emissions OR engine size depending on how old it is (see https://www.carzone.ie/news/motoringadvice/Motor-and-Road-Tax-Prices-Ireland-2019-1437.html). Still €1809 (or £1546 at today's exchange rate) though.

I've looked into electric vans for our fleet replacement at work. Despite manufacturers claims on range, once loaded and driven under anything other than perfect conditions, you're looking at 100 miles max. With 30 of us to cover the country, nobody does a mileage that low and the other problem is that as we all take the vehicles home and abandon them wherever there is space, how do we charge them overnight and then how does the employee claim back the cost of electricity from the company?

If you'd been over there, you'd soon realise there is little to no LPG availability over there, Theres more available in the North, but its scarce in the Republic, and a lot of the places it is available are office hours only.

Also the petrol was much more expensive than diesel when i was over there last, it was around €1 a litre for diesel, close to €1.40 for petrol!

The tax situation would explain why thats the case though. Reading that list is frankly horrific.

Well there are a few about, including mine, mainly on commercial tax though, although the farmers (who also benefit from the commercil tax) seem to prefer Mits and Toyotas. Check out the Donedeal site and you will always find a handfull. I am in North Tipp since 2016.
