Hi folks,

Just a quick introduction as a new forum member.
I've joined here because I can see a need for experienced assistance in my near future having just bought a 4.0l P38 - 2000my. Took the train down to Newcastle to do the deal, drove nearly 300 miles home without a hitch. I haven't any pics to put up yet but no doubt those will follow at some stage.

This will be my 3rd RR, having owned 2 'Classics' in the distant past. One with a 3.5L carburretted V8 mated to the 3-speed Torque-flyte box; and one with a 200Tdi conversion that someone else had done. Never had a P38 before though, so no doubt a steep learning curve awaits.

If anyone's intrested in Defenders, then I've been driving one of them as my daily vehicle for the last 18 years or so. Currently nearing completion of a 'rolling rebuild' - all outlined here: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic58538.html

Looking forward to participating in what looks to be another experienced, polite and considerate forum.

Hi Donald and welcome. Experienced, yes, considerate, yes, but sometimes the ribbing can appear less than polite. But, many of have met up in person at times so a bit of sarcasm creeps in. How far North in Scotland? Gordon who runs this forum is near Glasgow (which I know isn't that far North) and there's a couple of others in his area.

Hi Gilbert and thanks. Gordon actually had to help me sort out my registration as I had managed to get a 'typo' into my email address and was having problems breaking through.

I'm up near Inverness, so not too far away.

'Ribbing' is fine - I'm not a wallflower by any description - but I've been on some 'Landy' forums very briefly because the general standard of conduct went instantly beyond ribbing to out and out offensive! Life's too short for that. I've had a good wander about the forum before joining - while waiting for my registration problem to get sorted - and it looks like a good place.

Hi Don, welcome to the pub.

BTW all, are we going to do a meet in 2020? I don't have anything in particular to do to mine - maybe headlining... I also have a few Thor (i'm GEMS) parts I've accumulated that I could bring along to swap/ hand over

Welcome Don,

I've found the same as you that other lesser sites are far from polite. I'm relatively new and have found everyone here very helpful.

Rob, I'd be happy to do a headlining get together as mine is virtually fully detached -much like the rest of the car!

I went to Inverness once, many years ago. Made a welcome change from getting eaten alive by the midges on the West Coast......

To do a proper Summer Camp we'd need Marty to be about so we can use his workshop facilities and make sure Morat is there to drive the barbecue. Although Marty seems to be away working more than he's at home these days. If there's an alternative location, we could have a headlining session elsewhere but whoever provides the location would need to be aware that they would be finding bits of sticky orange coloured foam stuck to the underside of their shoes for weeks afterwards.

Welcome.

I got banned from the dark side for daring to reply to a thread with stuff that wasn't apparently on topic.

There's some good folk this side :)

Welcome Donald! It looks you're gifted with the spanners!
I think a 2020 summer camp would be a great idea, and then maybe a mass arrival at a show/rally/trial to wave the p38 flag in the 4x4 world?

Hi guys,

Thanks for the welcomes.

I did notice the 'summer camp' thing and thought it sounded fun - but Marlborough is some long way down for me.

Hoping to get my Defender back on the road towards the end of the month, then I can turn my attentin to the RR - prepare for lots of daft questions!
