Ok, so I started my 4.6 gems up after circa 8 years of standing still and instantly oil started spraying out of gearbox dipstick. I turned engine off and checked gearbox oil level and it appeared correct. Any thoughts?

Blocked breather? The gearbox breather comes out against the bulkhead behind the cruise control thingy, next the the EVAPS canister. I overfilled my gearbox once (stupidly assuming the difference between min and max on the dipstick was a litre) and it started blowing the excess out the breather.
I saw ur vid, No 2, so was waiting for the question :o) You checked the level while running, changing through the gears etc ? But breather sounds a good suggestion. Or maybe the fluid needs changing, after this long God knows what's happened to it, could even be full of EP90 !!
BTW, my gearbox level happened to be Min the other day and it took me two turkey baisters (60ml) to get to Max, which I know is not the question here, but I've seen it asked lots of times, and never truly answered
Weirdly if the level is low, it will launch fluid out the dipstick tube...
It has happened to me on my Turbo 400..
The difference bwteen min and max is 250ml IIRC
I took mine from min to max the other day, 200 ml.
Ah. so my clue was in " i turned engine off and checked the level", in the original post. You'll need to check it the right way Phil, and then report back.
Although checking it with the engine running as you're supposed to could get rather messy if it's blowing fluid out the dipstick tube......
Is the ATF cooler built into the radiator and is the gearbox full of coolant...

True... in which case better to just drain whatever's in there and start again...

Good idea, but the 50th has separate rad and gear cooler
No, separate radiator, engine oil cooler and gearbox cooler on a P38, although I believe the diesel may have a combined radiator/cooler for the engine oil, I know the Classic did.

Nope, seperate items. Engine oil cooler sits below intercooler and behind aircon condenser.
That's ruled my idea out then.

Maybe the ATF loses it's anti-foaming properties with old age? Combined with very low level could see the pump foaming it up?
It is possible.
However a blocked filter can also cause the same issue..
A blocked vent tube is another..
